What is a better card for Doom 3/Half Life 2? Speculate the best you can for Half-Life 2 b/c it's not out yet.

The SE is a 64-bit POS.

It should be compared to a 5200.

If you can wait, the 6600 seems like a great choice, AGP version should be available late september.

Very honestly, wait about 3 more weeks, and get a Geforce 6600 Non GT, Those options arent very preferable IMO, But the 5700 ULtra is better thana 9600SE.

I play Doom3 on a 5700 Ultra and am a happy camper. It gets 20 fps at 1024x768 and medium quality.

5900XT. Don't even consider the 5700 if you want a budget card.

Ugh.. what CPU? I have a barton 2800+ and a evga gf 5700 Ultra and get 45 fps with high quality @ 800x600. 20 fps seems really low to me. It is very playable and since moving up to 1 gig of RAM never get any hitching.

Happy Camper at 20 FPS? Wow you are easily pleased. :retard:

20 fps seems really low to me.

OK, I was too brief. Let me clarify. That 20 fps I mentioned was the minimum. My 5700 Ultra under 53.03 Detonators/XPPro reports approximately 21-52 FPS at 1024x768, medium quality, on an nForce2 SN41G2 system configured with a Barton 3000+ and 1G PC2700 RAM.

Yes, I am easily pleased. If I get fragged, I want it to be my fault, not the graphics card stuttering. As long as the hardware never holds back my gameplay, then I'm a happy camper.

Unless you can buy a 5700 or 9600 dirt cheap I don't think they are worth buying today considering the alternatives. 9700-9800 np, and soon to be out 6600.
