well, i was proud when my country entered the stadium. :D

and i also enjoyed seeing all the other nations parade in.

the Olympics, plagued by corruption, performance-enhancing drug abuse, and other scandals, still interests me, because, at it's heart, the idealism of the event still persists: peaceful competition of diverse and sometimes warring nations. if we let the athletes compete without the interference of politics, the games could serve the purpose i think they where meant to serve--a way to unify diverse peoples.

i'm looking forward to the Athens Olympics, the birthplace of Western culture, philosophy, art, science, and democracy, the originator of the Olympics. history, past and present, will be made in the Athens Gmes, and regardless of who wins gold or finishes last, i hope that the games are peaceful and the competition fair.

i was really impressed with the beauty of the Opening Ceremony. all of it, especially the history, Galaxy/DNA images, was really beautiful.

it was a great opening ceremony... :)

I am hoping that the games do indeed bring back the purity of the sports...

am a bit miffed @ some athletes being squeezed into races and pre-lims for nothing other than marketing purposes (ie phelps in his 8th race and marion jones likely in the 4x100) when they have not participated in those events all this time and the team already exists...

but watching phelps go after spitz' record will be interesting :D

bjork was a bit funkeh again  but the nostalgic moments that make the games great were abundant :)

I'm looking forward to my day late/tape-delayed broadcast on NBC with bob costas talking out of his ass for 2 weeks :D and I'm gonna enjoy it on mute dammit if its the last thing I do

women's beach volleyball in the morning .... can it get any better than that? :D

CBC has a lot of live events, meaning sleep will be in short supply. TSN has a lot of programming, too. and we also have NBC, so the coverage of the games is extensive to say the least. whilst i'm more of a fan of the Winter Olympics, i'll watch as much as possible, since the athletes competing are the best in the world.
