resolution is 1600x1200

The title is misleading, I read it wrong the first time, lol

My 6800 Ultra gets that already, thats at 16x12/4xAA/8xAF. Ok I guess.

but to 600Gt x2 = $199 x2 :D ?

The performance they're claiming for the 6600 series is indeed impressive, but Doom 3 obviously favors the hell out of the GeForce 6 series, so I sincerely doubt the card's performance will be as good in other games. I fully expect it will spank the 9600XT, however.

Then again, with Radeon 9800 Pro's going for about the same price as the 6600GT's MSRP (maybe less by the time they launch) I really can't see buying a 6600 just for Doom when a 9800 series card will probably do better in just about anything else (while still delivering very good performance in Doom 3, albeit not at 1600x1200)

"anything else"?
In fillratelimited situation the 6600GT will destroy the 9800pro like the XTPE with the Ultra (Shadermark2.0,AF + 1600*1200).
And you must see the extrafeatures: FP - Blending and filtering, SM3.0 (longer Shader -> increase the speed [see Farcry]).

hm......it said a single 6600GT can perform 42fps@1600x1200 High Quality in Doom 3
sounds good.

I sincerely doubt it's going to "destroy" the 9800 (destroy in my book is at least 2x performance in all situations I.E. 6800U vs 9800 Pro) but you may be right that it will be better under those circumstances

I think the 6600gt will win most benches against a 9800pro. The 9800pro has higher memory bandwidth so in High resultion + AA scenarios, it may be slightly faster. The 6600gt on the other hand has a higher core clock which will give it more Fillrate possibly giving it the edge in AF performance. Also, the 9800pro doesn't use ATi's Trylinear optimizations(yet) or 3dc. The 6600gt will benefit from having SM3.

In pixel shader 2 + AF benches, the 6600gt should obviously be better. But in High resolution + AA benches, the r9800 might eek a win or 2.

It'll have a slightly higher fillrate than the 6800 non-ultra won't it? And about 70% of the memory bandwidth... almost makes the 6800nu look kinda pointless. I wonder how it'll OC compared to the 6800nu?

It only has 100 more fillrate, so I would hardly call that obsoleting the 6800NU

If they put out a 6600 with 256bit bus and 256MB ram it would even give the 6800GT a run for its money. :nanahump:

well, if you can buy the 6600GT for $80 less and it comes with GDDR3 which will probably OC decently, it doesn't seem like the 6800nu would offer enough of a difference to be worth the extra money for those who are budget-minded... and for those who are not, they wouldn't buy either card anyway, so I'd have to respectfully disagree with you there ;)

42fps - That's incredible! I can't keep that kind of framerate on my 6800NU at that resolution. I guess I got ripped off..

That's with a pretty high end cpu though. The 6800nu is still a 12 piped/256bit memory video card. It should outperform the 6600gt in most games at Higher Resolutions + AA/AF and PS2 heavy situations.

Hey ChrisRay, do you think a 6600/gt would outperform a Fx5950 ultra in most situations?
