I get the following message whenever X starts:
"NVRM: Detected agp.ko, aborting NVidia AGP setup!".
I have been unable to get the video out working through the CRT port in my laptop as well. In the last drivers it worked perfectly with a similar (if not the same) configuration in the Xconfig file:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Card0"
Driver "nvidia"
Option "NoLogo" "1"
Option "TwinView"
Option "MetaModes" "DFP-0:1400x1050,CRT-0:1024x768@1400x1050"
Option "TwinViewOrientation" "Clone"
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP-0,CRT-0"
Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" "30.0-120.0"
Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "50.0-120"
EndSection
I am using FreeBSD 5.3 Beta1 (I know I should update but I haven't had time. I've planned to do it once 5.3R comes out).
My computer is a toshiba 5205- s503 satellite laptop, and it has TV-OUT and CRT-OUT ports.
I've also tried to get a Nvidia 2 MX 400 working in a desktop computer but it just turns the screen off when starting X. Am I doing something wrong? is it the Beta?
(BTW I disabled the SMP kernel options because otherwise both machines would freeze when starting X)
:lol2:
Thanks in advance

I tried this driver on another machine, with a GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X and the intel 845G (supposed to be supported by the nvidia driver's internal agp). I think there may be a bug here because I'm seeing this in the sysctl:
kaoru:~:> dmesg | grep nvidia
nvidia0: <GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X> mem 0xf0000000-0xf7ffffff,0xfc000000-0xfcffffff irq 16 at device 0.0 on pci1
nvidia0: [GIANT-LOCKED]
kculver@kaoru:~:> sysctl | grep nvidia
usage: sysctl [-bdehNnox] variable[=value] ...
sysctl [-bdehNnox] -a
kculver@kaoru:~:> sysctl -a | grep nvidia
nvidia 339 642K 642K 1159 16,32,64,128,256,512,1024,2048,4096
hw.nvidia.agp.card.rates: 4x 2x 1x

hw.nvidia.agp.card.sba: not supported

hw.nvidia.agp.status.rate: n/a (disabled)
hw.nvidia.agp.status.fw: n/a (disabled)

I don't have agp compiled into the kernel nor do I have agp.ko loaded. The driver also doesn't complain about any trouble initializing the agp. IT just doesn't work. Any ideas?

Anyone knows, if/when support for something like the "windows powermizer" is planned ifor FreeBSD? (I have FreeBSD 5.2, nvidia1.0.6113 and nvidia-settings installed).
All I found so far is that powermizer does clock down the card, and (explicitly/implicitly) puts it in low voltage. So maybe its less a dirver more an application issue. In which case anyone an idea, if something like this exists, or what would need to be done?

Try using one of the other configurator programs. xf86cfg is the graphical program that gives some people problems. There is a text based program that will create a config file for you, but I cant remember the name. I'm running xorg and the name is different.

Hi guys, I need help with installing these drivers. I am a bsd n00bie so i am sure this problem is pretty easy to solve for you guys. ;)
Ok, I extracted the drivers, did make install.
But the next time I boot into kde, I get the KDE crash info thingy, which says something like...
kcminit
signal 11
SIGSEGV crashed
and then my system would hang up and I have to do hard reboot.
Any help would be apperciated :)
thx in advance :)

What threading library are you using?
(And what version of the driver?)
The old (4365) driver doesn't work with any threading library but libc_r.
I suggest making a file called /etc/libmap.conf with the following contents.
# /etc/libmap.conf
#
# candidate mapping
#
libpthread.so.1 libc_r.so.5
libpthread.so libc_r.so
libc_r.so.5 libc_r.so.5
libc_r.so libc_r.so

Hi darius, thx for the reply :)
I have no idea what thread library i was using, and I am trying to use the 61.13 drivers. Is there anyway i can check?
Here is the backtrace:

The crash dialog box said:
"The application unknown (ksplash) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV)"

Hmm you could try
ldd /usr/local/bin/konqueror
and look for libpthread, libc_r or libthr.
Try the libmap.conf thing and see if that fixes it too..

wow, thx for the fast reply :)
sorry for my ignorant, but when i typed ldd /usr/local/bin/konqueror, it gave me a bunch of libraries, it went off the screen. is there a way to check it?
tried the libmap.conf thing and didn't work either :(
Uhh, I meant for you to actually read them and find out :-/
You can pipe it to less like so..
ldd /usr/local/bin/konqueror | less

ok, i did ldd /usr/local/bin/konqueror | less
I can see
lib_c
/usr/lib/libc_r.so.5
hmm.. should post my specs..
Asus P4T533-C
P4 1.8@2.4
Asus V9520 Video Suite (FX 5200, Dual DVI)

LG 12x dual layer dvd writer
Maxtor 40GB
FreeBSD 5.2.1
ForceWare 61.13 for BSD
i know this i am being n00bie, but please bear with me, I really wanna get this to work :)
OK, you're using the libc_r.
First I suggest you try disabling ACPI, then trying the various NvAGP options in your X config file (read the docs that come with the driver for more info).
If that doesn't work, then try the 4365 drivers - they work for me (and I have the laptop version of the FX5200)

I have just finished installing everything i wanted on FreeBSD 5.3RC2 and thought i was finished....but no i wasn't :S
When i try to start a program ,even a simple program like glxgears, i get an error about /libexec/ld-elf.so.1: Shared object "libm.so.2" not found, required by "libGL.so.1"
anyone know what to do?!??!?
if it can't find libm.so then something screwy is going on...
I suspect you ran ldconfig with the wrong arguments. How did you install the driver?
Try..
ldconfig /lib /usr/lib /usr/X11R6/lib /usr/local/lib
and you should be OK.

I used the ports version, make install clean with no arguments
How.. strange.
Did the ldconfig help?
Failing that a reboot should :)

i did ldconfig to all of those libs and a reboot and i still get that message :S
Does the ldconfig command fix your problem?
If it does, but rebooting breaks it, then I'd say something in your setup is hosed.
When things don't work, what does ldconfig -r say?

I got it working
i did some googling on libm.so.2 and found out that in FreeBSD 5.3 that library has change to libm.so.3 ...
so by adding
libm.so.2 libm.so.3
to /etc/libmap.conf it now works great with over 10000 fps in glxgears :lol2:
