I love these forums but I have a suggestion. Instead of having just "nvidia graphics card" is there any chance of adding for example: "geforce 6", "geforce 5", "older nividia cards". The reason I ask for this is that the "nvidia grpahics card" forums is so popular I think posts get buried too fast.

Good suggestion, although I can't see making a seperate forum for every generation since the Riva 128, the last two or three plus a generic "old nvidia graphics cards" forum would prolly help a lot. And yes you're right, posts in that thread do get buried entirely way too fast.

Maybe split into a "current gen" and a "legacy" NVIDIA forums. I agree there's not enough to justify a different forum for each. Look at the eVGA.com forums to see what that situation looks like.

Right. I would not expect a forum for every generation released. Like my original post stated I think 3 would cover it. The latest 2 generations then an "older" forums.

I was just thinking about this the other day, too, but y'all beat me to it! Anway, I'm leaning more towards what ricercar suggested -- a "Legacy" sub-forum for everything up to the Geforce 4 and a "Current" sub-forum for the FX and 6800 family. That would probably be our best bet.

Totally agreed. This would be a very good idea.

Sounds good, if I get the blessing from the bald gu---er MikeC, we can make it happen

If you are talking about a sub-forum like the Doom 3 forum tbh I don't like that. Let me tell you why though. It actually kinda drives me nuts that I have to click the gaming forum to get to the Doom 3 forum. And a lot of poeple post in the gaming forums because they dont see the Doom 3 sub-forum. If you could make it so the Doom 3 sub-forum is accessible from the main list then I would have no issue whatsoever. Just to clairify when I say main list I mean see if from here (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/) .

I understand what you are saying. I have given my thoughts on the matter and will leave it up to the powers to be. I appreciate taking the time to read and think about my suggestions. I have been coming to nvnews.net what seems like forever. Back in the riva128 days. I remember Mike C. and Halcyon from rivazone.com.

I also wish the doom3 forum was not a subforum, only because most people probably dont notice it...

My point exactly...

I think I remember seeing a vB hack that makes subforums clickable from the main page listings. That might take care of some problems.

As for subforums for each generation, I tend to agree that would be a good idea; I would not even have a problem should they have their own main sections. I'm also of the thought that they should be limited to the previous generation or so. vB3 is wonderful but it can look unwieldy and unapproachable with too many sections, especially with the stock graphics scheme.

It would be a great resource, but the world will not end if it doesn't come to pass.

I think a subforum per generation of card is a good idea.

TNT/TNT2, Ect,

Geforce/Geforce2/Geforce2MX/Geforce4MX

GEforce3/Geforce 4

Geforce FX

Geforce 6800

That's too many. I think three subforums would be sufficient: legacy (TNT-GF4 MX), DirectX 8 (GF3, GF4 Ti) and DirectX 9 (FX, 6800).

I guess you "could" plump the FX line and 6800 Line together, But the TNT isnt really in the same ballpark as a Geforce 2 either. I like how rage3d has there setup anyway.

I know it is probably like bringing up Satan here but the way Rage3D handles ATI would work well in a similar fashion here:

Nvidia Series 6 (6XXX)
Nvidia Series 5 (5XXX)
Nvidia Legacy

Very much agreed. Much cleaner, yet keeps the generations seperate. I like

Will see about making D3 forum a seperate one for now but when its popularity begins to die down, it'll be a sub-forum again. Same thing prolly for HL2-bundle when it comes out.

could we have it like this instead? Right now the FX cards are bunched with old school TNT cards. This seems a little unecessary to me, espeically since FX cards aren't that old, so I'd hardly consider them "legacy".

How about Geforce 6, Geforce FX, Legacy (everything older than FX)

pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease... :(

Forum Update:

As you can see the new "Legacy" graphics forum is now up. I know the FX series wouldn't technically be classified as a legacy card but to keep it simple, I wanted to just have two nv card forums for now. If there becomes a need for a third we can make it happen.

Added total # of new posts since last visit at the bottom. There's a few more things I'd like to add that we'll try to get to soon. If you're ever browsing the forums at vbulletin (http://www.vbulletin.com) or vbulletin.org (http://www.vbulletin.org[/url) and see something that you think might work well here, don't hesitate to start a thread here or shoot us a pm.

We had some cpu usuage issues on the server yesterday that were causes the major slow downs on the server. Some of this was due to vb db issues that we're currently in the process of correcting. If you see any errors while browsing, let me know. :)

Ok, I was against FX being in the Legacy category at first, but after 2 weeks of use I've gotten used to it. The FX cards take up the bulk of the Legacy category anyway so it's not a big deal. A seperate section for GF4 and lower probably would have been a waste of space.

Good work, please keep it like this :)

We had to kill it because the increased number of sql queries to the db from that script was hosing our webserver. Hence the horrible response times we experienced a few days back.
