Is it just me? I remember in the original Doom, you were in HELL a heck of alot longer then in DOOM3. Or am I confusing Doom2 in with DOOM?

Yeah original Doom's were longer , but then again you didn't need 4 years to program those small games back then.

Hell would lose its effect if you were there for too long.

Although it is nice to come home occasionally.

Exactly what effect is that? I was there for maybe 30 mins total besides dealing with that BOSS/seeker thing. I was expecting to be there for a LOT longer and am very dissapointed that there was so little involvement as far as HELL is concerned.

It could just be me, but I found the Hell portion of Doom 3 very refreshing and special because so little time was actually spent there. In other words, it never actually gains a sensation of familiarity. The Mars lab, however, was a lot more fleshed out and familiar by that time of the game.

In other words, it left me wanting more of it. That's not a bad thing. Here's hoping we're treated to another level or perhaps even two in the expansion.

Yeah, from the previews and impressions I was given on the game I thought the entire last section of the game was spent in Hell, here it turns out you're only there for about half an hour to retrieve a single artifact. Though to be honest I didn't like Hell that much, I was glad when I got back to the base. I did think you'd go back to hell at the end of the game though, but it seems this didn't happen either (unless you count the final boss fight as being in hell). If they make an expansion pack it'll probably be centered on Hell more though, after all, that's where we'll probably find our good doctor friend.

Oh, and off topic, but I just picked up the Excel complete collection a few weeks ago, and i never even noticed your avatar/location thingy before now, DVS (even though I saw the first couple episodes a year or so back). Heh, I take it that gif is from episode 26?

I enjoyed it... I liked how all of the walls would move and crap. It was a very nice effect with having you in an emty space and then all of the sudden a bunch of bricks just form walls :\.

Well I really do hope thet ID makes an expansion...or does DOOM2, FINAL DOOM over again using doom3 engine. Just because of the NAME of the game..aka DOOM3, I was expecting a lot more HELL and being in hell has nothing to do with getting Familiar with it as HELL can be made to look anyway they want it to, unlike the inside of a moon base thtas gonna have alot of pre-formed walls, ceilings etc. Just my thoughts tho.

Oh, and there is one effect I wish they did more with: and that is those wierd tenticle things that were growing into the base. It was a cool effect the first time I saw it, but it was almost kinda lame that it didn't actually move (the texture just scrolled a little). I think it would've been cool if they actually slowly moved through the base and started digesting or whatever parts of the level as it slowly devoured the base. Obviously this would take a lot more work to impliment, but I think it would be really creepy to see this huge growth actually pick apart pieces of the base and reshape parts of the level as you play (maybe some extra areas could be blocked off by it if you don't get there fast enough). Also I kinda expected to have to fight some of it or drive it off somehow. It reminded me a lot of the Elder God from Soul Reaver, actually. Oh well, maybe a mod/expansion pack will pick up where the game left off.
