I am noticing some strange behavior with 0.0.20.
If I have that program running in the system tray I cannot open notepad.exe. If I attempt to open a text file by double clicking it nothing happens. I've even watched the process list and notepad doesn't come up.
If ATI Tool is not running in the system tray notepad works fine.
WTF?
The problem was there for me with Catalyst 4.7 also, 4.8 hasn't fixed it. I wonder if this has anything to do with service pack 2...
*EDIT* I just found I can't open event viewer with ATI Tool running either. What in the hell??

You need a 6800 Ultra...bad. :p

ati tool has a personality. Sometimes it likes to work and cooperate. others it will piss you off. Grab another overclocking program and quit being lazy and manually overclock. Chances are ati tool will **** up anyway and give you inacurrate overclock results (like overclock your card too far)

Any particular suggestions then? I've used radclocker before.
How do you manually overclock? Can I set it in the registry (core/mem speeds)?

I think you just answered your own question. :p

Well I suppose I can give it a try. I have had a good experience w/ATI Tool so far though so it's to bad I have to dump it. I suppose I can leave it on the machine for now and just bring it up when I want to monitor temps or something. Maybe a new version will come out and fix this problem. Still wonder though if it's just my machine or what.. I have a post over at rage3d so we'll see what the nerds over there have to say.
*EDIT* Radclocker v2010 works just fine... And it loads my clocks @ startup. The only thing ATI Tool has over it is the auto artifact scanner and the profiles it can store.

He's got an x800 xt pe, oc'ed. That will beat the pants off of any 6800U.
Ok fanboys settle down. I had the privilege of running a X800XT PE for two months and it was a great card. I have owned a 6800 Ultra for a few weeks now and it is just as good. I switched to Nvidia mainly for the 3D Stereo and SM3.0 support.
As for overclocking the X800XT PE I would suggest getting Radlinker. It allows you not only to overclock your card, but also set up individual launch profiles for games where you can set up AA/AF and even overclock settings for that specific game. I only used ATI Tool to test for artifacts and heat levels.
Try the ATI Tray Tool. I used Radlinker/Radclocker for a while and then ATI Tool for a bit before finally settling on the ATI Tray Tool. It's really nice and seems to work well.

I settled on radclocker. Radlinker is cool but I don't really need the profiles function or any of those other tweaks. So I just loaded the clocker and left it @ that..
BTW, they got back to me about the problem I was having with ATI Tool. I need to turn off "3d detection". It's a bug that will be fixed in the next release, so it wasn't my system being :retard: it was their software. :)

Rip,
I loved ATi Tray Tools with my X800Pro. I could OC and do things like set anisotropic filtering to apply trilinear to each texture stage. Good for games that use a stage other than zero and you can't control AF from within the game. It had many other functions and tweaks as well. Guru3d should have it if I am not mistaken.
EDIT: NM there it is: Whoomp viola<

Maybe it is fixed in ATiTool 0.21 which has just been released?
Otherwise, I suggest you look for powerstrip..

So, is there anything wrong with paying for a product you like?

Only when there are numerous comparable products available for free. :)

Yes, this bug was fixed with 0.0.21. But at this point I've already removed the program and got radclocker running just fine. Since all I wanted to do was o/c and I've already used ATI Tool to run my tests when I had it installed there is no need for it any longer. Not a bad program though, for sure... Now that they've fixed that little annoying bug anyway. ;)

Which might have something like the aforementioned bug and then you have NO place to run to...
