The new ACE Catalyst driver with all new interface will going to be more than 40Mb to download. What a joke ever for 56k dialup users! It will require .NET framework to use the driver.

I dont have a clue, I guess ACE could stand for ATI Catalyst Experience or ATI Catalyst Enhanced. :)

.NET framework required? WTF?

"The .NET Framework 1.1 Redistributable cannot be installed on 64-bit computers"

so how would that affect you?

I found .NET framework a complete waste of space, all applications required .NET framework alway mean files getting fatter like file sharing edonkey2000 a few years ago without .NET framework, the installer file was around 2Mb then edonkey 2000 developer created a new version of edonkey2000 with .NET framework and released test version, the file size was around 7Mb, I was not very impressed with .NET framework version with new interface, it was completed waste of space and time. Then months later edonkey2000 developer scrapped .NET framework version because it was so very unpopular, ugly interface and fatter file sizes.

Maybe in December ATI will realised ACE Catalyst will be the biggest flop and then scrap ACE Catalyst and go back to normal Catalyst.

We all know how Ati can never introduce something new without breaking something old or in some cases even breaking new stuff. This was my main reason for going nVidia and I havent been happier :D

I am running a 32bit operating system so it will install just fine.

Does anyone else think the new ATi CP looks similar in form to the current nvidia CP?

And then again, maybe it won't.

That's progress for you. 20+ to 40+. Hopefully they'll reconsider but it's probably too late for that now.

One of the previous Omega drivers required it too, but it was for some extra program that I never used.

Coming from someone who has neither seen it in action or used it for that matter...

Also, .NET is not bad like everyone makes it out to be. I find it to be a pleasant programming environment. I welcome the ability to create Windows GUIs on the fly...

I think it looks more similar to the Catalyst Control panel that ATi has for Macs...

http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/Graphics/9800pro_Mac/displaysPanel.gif

It has working gamingprofiles, but also supersampling AA. It's pretty clear that ACE is based on this panel. Oh and I've read on several sites that .NET isn't needed at all and that the new drivers might even come in a smaller package than it currently is.
