I am desperate for help and if someone can answer this quickly I'b be very thankful since I am on a deadline. Can anyone tell me if the Quadro FX 3400 will be equivalent in performance to a 6800 Ultra?, do they share the same chip family?. I am in need of a Dual Link DVI card but dont want to sacrifice any gamming performance. Currently I own a 6800 ultra card. Any info is apreciated.

from what i can tell maybe not... the 4000 series seems to be a safer bet to nv40 origins

Thanks for the info. I think it is equivalent to a 5900 Series card. Does anyone know where I could find a Quadro FX 4400? or better yet 2 of them? I need it for work and must buy one soon.

Nope. The 3400 isn't equivalent to a 5900. The 3400 is a nv45gl chip, derived from the nv40 (and it is a PCI-E card, btw).

Btw, there is a review of the 3400 and 1300 up at Tom's Hardware...

I'd say that the 3400 is somewhat comparable to the GT. It's clocked at 350/450.

Oh, and you won't find a 4400 for quite some time, since it isn't even out yet. The 3400 is the fastest pro card your money can buy right now (unless you want to buy two 3400 and SLI them, provided you have a tumwater).

whoops guess i was wrong... i looked at their site and they didn't mention sm3 with the 3000 series but did with the 4000 series...

Would buying the 6800GT equivalent Quardro also be a kick-ass gaming card, or no?

Last couple of weeks someone has been unloading a batch of 3400s on E-bay with a BIN price of $599.99 each.

After i sold my QuadroFX1000 i had a choice to make ;

- get a better Quadro

- get a good Geforce6800 GT

The QFX1000 was perfect for my 3D modeling skills, so I would settle for no less. The QFX2000's are really rare in the Netherlands and if you so find them they're often about as expensive as the QFX3000 which still costs about 1500 Euro's.

So, knowing Nvidia's great OpenGL support in general I went with the GT. Does everything the QFX1000 does and then some, plus high end gaming.

The QFX4000's are VERY expensive imo

I'ts about equivalent to the Geforce 6800 GTO, the equivalent of the 6800 Ultra would have to be the Quadro 4000 Series though those will cost a ton :(

I have also noticed this bunch of Quadro FX 3400
cards on eBay for about $600 per piece.

There appear to be multiple manufacturers who
produce cards that are branded as "nVidia Quadro FX
3400".

Be therefore warned that you might not get the exact
device that you expect if you buy one of these eBay
cards. For example, you might have fallen in love
with the sleek PNY card, but instead receive a card
that was manufactured by some system integrator
specifically for their own line of workstations.

I believe that the eBay cards you are referencing are
primarily pulls from HP workstations. There seems
to be an HP part number in these ads, and some of
the ads list the card manufacturer as HP.

If you search for that HP part number, you might
stumble across a photograph of that card which
looks (almost) nothing like the sleek PNY card that
these eBay sellers generally include in their listings
(together with a disclaimer that the photograph is
possibly inaccurate).

Another company that appears to produce a boxed
Quadro FX 3400 product is Leadtek.

I don't have any information that would suggest that
product A is better than (or even different than)
product B. Just be warned that if you make your
purchasing decision based upon some hardware
guide's review of product A, it is possible that you
will be disappointed when you receive some
(possibly substantially different) product B.

One thing I do know is that if you add the term
"PNY" to your eBay search, you cease to get
results in the $600 neighborhood.

I wish someone who does know some more details
about this issue would come forward.

Thanks,

Lincoln DeCoursey

I bought one of those cards on ebay called a Quadro fx 3400. It bears an HP part number. It displayed some problems and is dead now. Of course I have no recourse against the seller. I have tried to contact HP to no avail as the part is not listed in their parts catalogue as available for sale. They will not provide service or warranty. Does anyone know who to contact for service with problems with this card.

Here's a good thread for you.
I've done this and had it working fine with only minor loss in gaming performance. Maybe 2 or 3fps.
