View Full Version : Haliburton's saga continues on many fronts
its amazing how much controversy surrounds this company... how unethical its methods are... and yet the government continues to endorse contracts with it from clinton's reign to bush's...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/3574824.stm
the US army had decided to with-hold 15% of fees owed to haliburton due to improper practises... they have decided to suspend that action for now however in a somewhat surprise move...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/3799635.stm
haliburton appears to have bribed its way to massive contracts with nigeria and is under investigation for bribery by the SEC...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/3533236.stm
improper accounting practises investigated by the SEC... a matter that Haliburton settled for $7.5 million...
post enron it is just sad that there continue to be instances where officials of a company continue to conduct business in improper ways...
if we can charge martha stewart for obstructing justice of all things... why the hell can't we get a move on with the enron's of the world and send out a clear message to those conducting fraud...

It's amazing how people can kick up a fuss about this and ignore the France and Russia with their contracts to Iraq....
Personally I don't give a crap what they get up, but thats just me.

Yes saz, it is. And unfortunately (call me a cynic if you will :D ), I don't expect this to change anytime soon.

There's a saying, which goes something like
One hand washes the other, and they both wash the face
I'll only give brief mention to this quote from saz's second article. No doubt over the next few days people will discuss the significance of it, so I'll leave it to that :D
Kellogg Brown and Root (KBR) and three other partner firms allegedly paid $180m (£99m) in bribes, the SEC says.
US Vice President Dick Cheney was head of oil services conglomerate Halliburton at the time.

It's amazing how the American people forget that while the UN Inspectors were looking for WMDs and Bush was trying to sell a war with Iraq to the tax-payers, the U.S. Government had purchased oil from Iraq because of the quaqmire in Venezuela. See folks? It's "wrong" when France, Germany, or Russia financially support the regimes of dictators but it's "right" when the USA does it! ;)

i dont understand how some of you are defending halliburton's actions. they're taking advantage of the troops in iraq by overcharging them on materials, and theyre overcharging the government on basically everything. this may not seem like a big deal, until you realize that the government's money is actually our tax dollars. this is a serious case of war profiteering, and the sad part is noone is really doing anything about it (big surprise, considering cheney is still connected to halliburton)

Yeah, how criminal is it to employ a temporary solution to resolve a fairly critical issue....Man, Bush should hang for keeping our flow of imported oil going....

Liberals love ignoring facts like that because it would otherwise prove them wrong. I mean oil is not a must for the worlds economy, whereas a few MIGs are :retard:

Who mentioned support? Nobody has supported them in the thread so far, I've said I don't give a crap :p

I am convinced that liberals and conservatives alike can get in a mindset where they completely ignore objectivity and blur logic with political bias.

DUH!! :retard: thats why the majority of the government should consist of moderates, not far right's like bush. you know the administration is right winged when neocons are fullheartedly supporting them. same goes for left wingers, though they are few and definitely not in power. its freakin amazing when i watch cspan and see them arguing over the most trivial things like children.

You are so dishonest. The US did not trade with Iraq during the embargo. France Russia and Germany all gave weapons money and other supplies for oil during the embargo.

i cant tell sarcasm when its typed, but i hope thats what it was. the reason this country has been so stable and prosperous was because the two wings cancelled each other out, and only the most middle ground laws and ideas were put to use. if you go the way this administration is going, we're just going to end up like north korea or iran, or even better, like the former ussr. and yes, this administration is full of neocons, even they admit it.

First off neoconservatives are good and I don't run from that glorious lable. :D Only Liberals run from their name. ;)
Second I was referring to your comment about moderates. That is what I thougt was dumb. I want the Left and the Right fighting it out in congress. The less congress does the BETTER!

Ok so you ignore the fact that the Clinton administration used them also. Top Clinton officials said the contrats Halliburton got were normal and the same kinds they had with them but you guys wont go near this. Why? Hypocrits!
