For how long would you keep your fidelity to NVIDIA until they release a new card ? Consider that its competitors keep releasing new and faster cards regurarly.

This question is not really of public interest. I think it will just start another flame war. Besides, the question is not completely or correctly stated because i did not understand it. However, i voted for keep it untill i die.

the question was asking, "how long would you keep your current nvidia card" correct? and the different time frames is the amounts of time until they release a new high end card.

Well, I've got a GeForce2 GTS right now, and as I have no money to upgrade right now, I'll probably wait for the Ti4200-type version of NV30. If that comes out around April/May, that should be right about the time I get my tax refund check.

Hell, even if I could get a Ti4600 or a 9700 for $100 I wouldn't do it because being able to pay rent and having a roof over my head is just a little bit more important than a fast video card.

If money wasn't a problem, I'd at least try a 9700 now, then see what the NV30 has to offer when it comes out.

When its time to upgrade, I buy whatever card is best for me performance and price range wise.

When I have the money I buy the best whatever company that is.

My question means this:
Suppose, for example, that NVIDIA just releases NV30 in 2004, and ATI in the mean time releases faster cards, at the current rate. Consider that NV30 would be a a product better than ATI's at that time.

So, if you think you would keep your GeForce 4 until there and don't buy another one, you should vote at 24 months.

Well geez why wasn't that said in the first place? :p

Now why would the NV30 be launched in 2004? :p

To answer your last question: No, I would not wait 24 months for the NV30 and would upgrade well before the NV30 came out in 2004.

I normally skip two cycles of vidcards. I currently have GeForce 2 Ti. NV30 is possibly the next card that I would own, or it could be ATI, but the decision more or less is based upon how reliably and quickly NV30 can support the mainstream after the launch. In that case, it is the same whether the competitor would release newer cards. Since the manufacturers' time frame is more or less the same (give or take a few months of delay due to circumstances), I would at least rate the average lifetime of vidcards in my system at 24 months. Right now, NV30 is updated too closely at the heel of the R300 release, hence my hesitation.

Yeah, no favorites here either, lol, I have a few ATI cards, a few nVIDIA, GF2s and a couple of GF4s, 9700 Pro is on its way hopefully, but yeah, I like whatever is best.:D
