Im going to order the ati silencer 4 from frozencpu and believe that changing heatsink and thermal paste will voide my warranty. However, if something happens to the card can i just put the old heatsink back on or will they know? Also will they know if the card was overclocked if done by ati tool?

Thanks!

No, they can't tell if it was overclocked.
Yes, they can tell if you removed the heatsink because the thermal paste will most likely be different than the one that came with it. It's not for sure, but you do take a risk there.
Of course, you can always use this solution. If your X800 does die prematurely then you can purchase a new one @ a retail store and return the dead one. The store won't be checking the thermal paste.

My 9700 Pro that I had ages ago died, and I had re & re'd the heatsink. I sent it into ATI for RMA and in one week I had a new card. They do not care, remember, you are dealing with a $500 card here and they will honor the warranty unless you have visibly done something stupid to mod the card. :)

ya i rma'ed a 9700pro to ati as well with the heatsink replaced and i even had to reatach a new power plug to the fan as i had accedently pulled a wire out of the orignial one. ati didn't give me any trouble about it at all.
