Please someone who has access to both an x800xt and 6800 ultra give us benchmarks for rome total war, I wanna wait before i see benchmarks for this game before i decide which card.

Thanks.

you shouldnt base your purchase on one game =) Get whichever card u feel will play what you own and plan to buy. The Ultra and xt pe are both really solid-personally I lean toward the ultra a bit more for sm3.0, and ultra shadow ll technology, but the pe has some nice features as well sm2.0b and 3dc....u cant lose with either one....this isnt like last generation where there was a definitive winner.

Yeah, basing your purchase off of 1 game is kinda silly, unless there's a REALLY big performance difference and you're going to spend a LOT of time playing the game. I doubt there will be a big performance difference, but there should be a decent number of benchmarks that show up when it's officially released, so you shouldn't have any problem seeing how each card performs. I'm wondering what kind of framerates we'll actually get out of this game. I'm not sure whether to expect 30 FPS or 100 FPS on high end hardware. But the game sure does look more CPU limited than GPU, all those units... :drooling:

Personally, I'd say get the 6800GT as it seems to offer the best bang for your buck, but no matter what you choose I don't think you'll have to suffer through low framerates for a very long time ;)

this isnt like last generation where there was a definitive winner.I'd call the 5900's the winner from last gen. :D

Ahh, can't edit. Of course, I use Linux primarily :)

Personally I started buying nVidias because GeForce was a cool name and I like the company logo. I never stopped doing so since, but I've never been dissappointed with the cards.

Hmm...so no one has agreed yet to provide these benchmarks...

This game is going to be outstanding. You'd probably have to wait for some official benchmarks since no one here (or at least very few) has access to both cards.

I'll stick a benchie on when I get the demo for the heck of it :)

y'all can laugh @ me with your uber l33t cards :D

will give an idea of how cpu intensive this game is as well I spose..

is there a definite release date for the demo?

Total War looks like is has such basic graphics that would run on anything from a Ti4200 to a 6800GT max detail. Either one would most likely run the game at max settings, as others say dont let this game be your deciding factor.

the graphics given the sheer number of characters on screen @ any given time is pretty impressive (imo)... I have medieval... total war and even that looks pretty sweet when you zoom into the characters... excellent game (plus the french run away from you every time  )

I have a feeling a powerful cpu will likely aid in the rendering of the multiple characters in the game...

Ok the demo is out. If someone could run benchmarks on a x800xt AND a 6800ultra for comparison, it would be greatly appreciated.
Here is the link how to get it:

A few folks are providing the settings they are using when playing the demo in this thread: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=35361.

I know ive seen plenty of that around.

I want the actual benchmarks comparing the two cards.

no one here is gonna give u actual benchmarks...there is no benching option in the game and I dont know how many...if anyone on this site has both cards and the time to do a fraps bench. Just wait for some sites to gives benches or at least try to get some nvidia benches here and some ati ones at rage.

You can do benchmarks with fraps, the game doesnt need a built in benchmark feature.

the game is most likely severely cpu limited due to thousands of units on the battlefield at once, so i doubt there will be much difference between the xt and ultra...btw, the demo runs flawlessly on my gt @ 1280 4xAA/8xAF...
