I've got a BFG 6800GT and I'm looking to overclock it a little more than what I've got it at now.

Currently, it's running at 420 core and 1.13ghz Mem and the temp at idle is right at 60~61*C and about 10*C more when under load.

The BGF cooler seems really stout and I read the guy's review of the AC5 and was mentioning the thermal pads on the memory. I pulled my cooler off and noticed taht BFG uses regular thermal paste on the core and memory instead of pads.

Do any of you BFG guys have the AC5? If so, what sort of temp drops did you guys get? This card generates so much heat, I had to back my CPU clocks down to keep it running stable! :retard:

If you are running 420 on the Gpu and gets about 70c load, there is no point in getting the Artic cooler.

why? It locks up if it goes over 70 or so.

Normally, I'd assume that bigger = better and the ac5 looks huge compared to the bfg cooler.

nevermind...I just noticed your sig.

Well if you see my sig you see that i get about 70c under max load at 425Mhz core. If you want it cooler you have to go water.

Your card shouldn't come near to locking up until you get into at least the upper 90s.

The only way to get an accurate temp reading is to run a program like Rthdribl in windowed mode while monitoring the temps. Most of the 6800 GT and Ultra cards I have seen run in the 70-80 degree range under load.

Anyway at 460/1200 mine runs about 47-48 degrees under full load with watercooling so if you are getting temps in the 60 degree range under load I would not expect an improvement with anything other than water as Mojoe stated.

You can also run many games (Far Cry and UT2K4) in windowed mode as well allowing you to monitor temps in realtime.

When i run games my temp stays at about 64c, the Rthdribl really stress the card and brings me to about 70c.

hey warden, what waterblock are you using? Dangerden? I've tossed around the idea of getting one but the fact is, the card is already so fast that I really doubt that it will make any difference in gaming. It'll just raise the temp of the CPU due to the water cooling it also.

But yeah, it locks up if I take it any higher. Hell, I had the windows XP 3d screensaver going and it would lock up with that! :(

Mabey it's the memory getting too hot??? But I would thing that I woudl see artifacts if the memory were getting hot right??

I was at 400/1100 on my GT and jumped to 460/1200 with the Dangerden block so it made a huge difference for me :) I've been able to play Doom 3 at 475/1230 but I got a crash after 30 minutes so I dialed it back.

what other watercooling items are you using? Did the VGA block raise the temps that much in your setup??

the ac5 looks like a better version of the bfg piece since they both cover the ram. Thing is, the ac5 vents air out of the case, which may help case temps?

Hmmm, I'm also thinking about getting the NV5 just for the sound improvement! These new second gen BFG 6800's have really crappy fans and one of mine rattles. My only concern is the warranty, I know putting one of these on here will void it, but technically if I have to send it in can I just swap it for the old cooler and cheat the system a little?

if you put some white thermal paste back on and cant tell the difference.. hehe

Heh, from the sound of it, they're just using what ever paste they get they're hand's on. Probably have some left over bucket's of gunk from previous models. :lol2:
