Here's a story you won't find RNN's hounddog Bill O'Reilly complain about!! :p

http://www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/ptech/10/30/telemarketing.war.ap/index.html

CNN has this article about how the telcos are reaping profits from selling your phone number to the telemarketers, only to sell customers the ways to block the telemareketers, and then turning right around and selling ways for the telemarketers to get around the blocking/privacy services customers purchase from the telco to block the damned telemarketers in the first place!!

I think you get the picture. :)

It is nice to see stuff like this in the mainstream media. ;)

I wonder if the CEO of SBC would like to see a 7-figure CLASS ACTION lawsuit? :p Let's find out, America! Get on your horn and call the attorney general in your state.

I think that they shouldn't be able to sell my information at all, and if they do, I should get at least a 33% cut out of the deal. Hey, if SBC sells one of their magic lists for $1,000,000 and it has my name on it, by God I'd better get a check in the mail for $333,000 as a "tolerance fee".

Nice little setup they have-the telecoms are making money from both sides and laughing all the way to the bank.

Technological "arms race" indeed.

So would blockers be sold to counteract the anti-blocker measures? That would cost another fee. http://home.earthlink.net/~sbp777/pics/bleh.gif

Interesting...I just found this little label sown into the underside of my scrotum...

"The entity known as PsychoSy is protected under the provisions set forth under the DMCA....and we don't know why!!

:p

I tell ya, no wonder people are just cancelling thier home phones and going to pre-paid cellular. They cost about the same (if not cheaper if you hardly call anyone) as a regular phone and the chances of some schlepp calling you at 7AM to sell you aluminum siding (or remind you that you should engage in the pointless national pasttime we call voting on Tueday) aren't as high either. :D

And besides, long distance costs the same as local with most cell phone contracts :D

Hmmm... so basically the telephone companies cause the problem, then sell you services to avoid it. That makes them no better than a protection racket.

Yeah, then they turn around and sell loopholes on how to get around the protections to the telemarketers. It's a non-ending circle jerk of the telcos playing both sides against the middle and laughing all the way to the bank.

Legalized racketeering, if I may be so bold. :p
