Help! I know this thread probably isn't entirely new but I'm kinda freaking out here, and can't seem to find the other ones like it. I just bought a 6800 GT and I am get 43 fps @ 1024x768 on high quality mode no aa in a doom 3 timedemo . Something is wrong here but what? See me specs below, I should not be that bottle necked by my system. I have the AGP aperture set to 512mb, and I have the latest nforce chipset drivers. And am using 61.77 nvidia drivers for the card. So why does doom 3 performance suck so much?

You might have have v-sync on, but to be honest your performance sounds about right. On my XP2000 computer I get around 27 FPS in the timedemo. Set the game at 1600x1200 in ultrahigh quality, I bet your framerate will be the same (which would prove my suspicion that you're CPU limited).

1152x864 was 46 fps. Average. Dunno something seems a little wrong doesn't it? When I look at the space ship that drops you off in the beginning of the game Iím getting 20 fps

edit V-sync is off in the drivers and the game

Also in the timedemo it's the hesitations that seem to slow the game down the most

I have a feeling you might be CPU limited, esp at 1024x768.

so this kind of fps (see screen shot below) is normal for a 6800 GT running on a ~ Althon XP 3000+? Running high quality 1024x768.

No, probably not.

First of all, is that your second run through?

Next, make sure all of your driver control panel settings are on "Application Controlled". I usually get that kind of number for 16x12x32 with 2x AA.

For example, at 10x7x32 high quality with 2xQ (driver setting, Doom3 set to no AA), I pull down a healthy 53fps WITH V-Sync. I have an XP 2500 (11x190) GB of PC3200, A7N8X, and a 6800GT at 410/1.1G. My system is only slightly faster than his.

second run through at 1152x864 I got 58.5 fps which is more or less what it should be. Anyone have any luck with the image_cachmages ect commands?

I get 51 FPS with settings at ULTRA No AA and screen 1024x768. Not too shabby!

humm I guess it just is what it is then. I was hopping to have it pegged at 60 fps all the time with the new card. Then I saw that 20 fps in the begining of the game and was like wtf?.. well Off play doom 3 then. ;-)

I have a:

2500+ at 2130mhz
1 gig ram
$299 Leadtek 6800 128mb (at 385/415)
65.xx leaked drivers.

At 1280*1024 High Detail noAA 8xAA-the default at High detail

First run ranges 47-49 Second run usually can be 57-58. If I set the image quality in the nvidia drivers from High Quality to Quality (I have no idea the difference) my first run goes to 51.5 and 2nd run 61.5.

I remember in the begining around the ship the framerate got low, but I also find through out the game 30-40fps is kind of jerky when it shouldn't .

with my 6800 ultra i get 85 average fps :\ and my system is all stock. having hte driver settings at high quality disables all teh nvidia driver optimizations. thats why ur fps goes up. i onyl tested once and got 85 dunno if i test twice wut happends.

Did you make sure Vsync was off. I find besides limiting the framerate to the refresh or whatever, it actually drops the frame lower than it should. I had a spot run at 45fps, but then with vsync turned on it was limited to 30fps in that spot, then another spot could go over 30fps, weird. That vsync does some crazy things, so make sure you have it off.

Damn, I get higher numbers at 16x12 High 4xAA.

did you use some special console command to turn off the FPS limiter?? Mine is pegged at 60fps most of the game.....except in hell...but that doesn't count.

Not really, I can get 80.8fps on my system at 1024x768 if I turn everything off (shadows, bump maps, etc) and at that point I'm limited by my CPU (Athlon XP 2500+ @ 3200+) and he's got an Athlon FX-53.

in the timedemo u can go above 60 fps. yeah well at high quality and all the settings i use to play the game. no tweaks for benchmarking and hte drivers set to quality i get 85 :\

The CPU makes a really big difference I guess. My 2500+ is running faster than a 3000+ but I couldn't get it to 3200+ spec. even with raising the voltage. It's too bad because the same time period I got mine CPU others in the store were hitting 3200+ spec with no voltage raise at all. Just imagine what 1.75 V like mine is running at could make them do. Thing is I just blew my wad on a video card so i'll have to deal with what ever fps I get at this point. even though it dips down to 30 fps often while in big rooms or when fighting people. I'm going to run high quality @ 1152x864 with 4x aa. since turning on aa didn't slow it down at all.

I just wanted to double check your vsync in the drivers and game is off.

Also, did you try 3Dmark03, maybe it could also reflect the same poor perfomance in Doom3.

v-sync In the game is off and in the Nvidia control panel it is set to application controlled. I'm downloading 3dmark right now, and we shall see what I get.

Bro, your athlon 2500+ @ 2.11 is holding you back. Your card is fine.

I get around 56 FPS at 1600x1200 at high quality with 61.77 drivers and a 6800 ultra and a Athlon XP 3000+ 333fsb.

43 FPS at 1024x768 seems way too slow, even though you have a slower cpu and proc.

I'm going to do some tests at 1024x768 and post back later.

EDIT

I got 60 FPS at 1024x768. I'm definately CPU limited. You probably are too.

Get around 80 - 84 FPS 1280x1024 High Detail Settings..

AMD Athlon64 3500+ @ 2420 Mhz , 2 x 512 DDR @ 220 MHz, Inno3D U @ 425/1200 Mhz.
