I am also forced by law to vote, otherwise I will be panished. Of course, for a small fee, US$4,00 or so plus a written justification, I won't suffer no punishment.

I don't complain, since voting is considered a right and an obligation around here, and I agree with that, since this is an accepted tradition.

But I think, KILLER and anyone else, that if voting is optional where you live, you should fight to keep it like that, because that's the way your people has choosen to live. If that changes, against your will and traditions, it will be a imoral way of manipulating the democratic process.

For the gentlemen who are forced to vote: is there a none of the above choice or blank space where a name can be put in? What would happen if a ballot was turned in completely empty?

What country are you located Mod?

Well, I can write all sorts of crud and my vote will not get counted, but I need to have my name signed down on some book meaning I need to go outside to the place and vote :/
Check under Avatar for location :)

Just vote for the local crazy candidate and everything will be fine. :)

I hope you just have to sign a book, and not the ballet itself. I would never trust a ballet which is personally identifiable. Some crazed man gets in and could know who didn't vote for him... Peeps like the Iraqi President who would gas his own brother and anyone in the proximity of someone who says he's a bad president ring a bell?

Honestly though, making it mandatory when all the candidates can suck. Perhaps electing "You all blow chunks" might get the point accross, if enough people vote that way.

so is this an idealistic problem for you, or are you just complaining because you're lazy :D

they should let you vote...over the internet, from the comfort of your leather chair. and if you don't own a leather chair, they by all means go out and buy one!

Killer ole son, have you just recently turned 18 :p I remember when I turned 18 and was told I had to vote by law. I voted in the local election and skipped the federal. I got a letter in the mail saying I had to pay whatever, I rang them up and said it was thier fault and that I had elected, they said ok well dont worry about the fine then. Now for the past 6 years I havent been in Oz I havent voted once.

Just remember one thing though, if you dont vote, you loose your right to critisize your government ;)

I don't know if they have this in america, but in canada there is usually an 'other' box that you can check if you dislike all the candidates.

I wish we had one of those here in the US.

Oh wait, we already do (http://www.democrats.org/ObamaSplash.html).

Only yours seems more fun. :(
