You can try to read the article, but the english is so broken that I didn't bother.

8000 3dmarks from a $200 card looks very impressive, though I think they just killed the 6800 vanilla.

I'm personally still waiting for some real game tests to see how much better it is than a 9800 Pro.

That's the idea, killing the 6800 with a cheaper to manufacture version. Bad thing is that it can't be modded to a 6800gt like the 6800nu.

The ed mark score is 8042? That's extremely low.

You can enable the 16 pipelines, but you are still stuck with the 6800s tiny memory bandwidth and only 128 mb of RAM.

I personally never liked the 6800 vanilla at the $300 pricepoint to begin with.

since when can the 6800's be modded, every story ive heard is that you get artifacts when you do that and its very difficult to disable the pipelines after you enable them

Show me a $200 video card that gets 8000+ 3dmark03 points at stock speeds.. Overclocked, it would probably be able to get 9000+..

Isn't that a pci express version of 6800 GT?

No.. It's a PCIe 8 pipe 6600gt. The 6800gt gets around 10000+ marks, but it costs $400.

Wouldn't they make a larger profit margin on a $300 6800 nu?

I can understand why ati did this in replacing the 9500s with the 9600s, as they charged a similar price for the latter.

Not if the 6800nu costs more to manufacture.

Beats those 9800XT people paid 499usd for. For the cash it's a fine card. WTG nVidia.

Nope quite the contrary, the nv40 core is much more expensive to manufacture than the nv43 core so they make a better profit margin with the 6600 than the 6800. Besides AFAIK all 6800 cores are made by IBM with .13 process, but 6600 core will be built by USC or TSMC with .11 process.

Christ, man: read the thread. The 6800 costs more to make than the 6600.

Goes around like this.

6600 128MB = 6000pts
6600GT 128MB = 8000pts
6800 128MB = 9500pts
6800GT 256MB = 11,000pts
6800Ultra 256MB = 12,000pts
6800Ultra Extreme 256MB = 13,000pts

I guess they must be having less trouble making nv40 cores if they are killing off the 6800NU.

But it looks like you'd need an 6600 Ultra to equal/come close to the 6800NU.

It's been said that the new RivaTuner might come out at the end of August. In which case we might soon find out how many 6800NUs can be software moded.
