I figured I would write a small guide to let some people (first timers, like myself) know how easy it was to install. When I first purchased it I was worried about damaging my video card and not installing it correctly, this was the first time I did a video card heatsink change. To my surprise it was rather easy and took less than 3 minutes.
Remember try at your own risk and follow the directions provided with the ATI Silencer 4 carefully. I will not be responsible for any mishabs that may happen with your card. Thanks.
Guide
Step 1, carefully remove your video card from your system. Then you need to remove the two screws from the back of the card, the ones that hold the small bar in place. Next you need to remove the only other screw on the back of the video card.
Step 2, once all screws are removed just pop off the old heatsink, be sure to keep all screws and the heatsink together, in case you need to put them back on for some reason...
Step 3, Clean off the thermal paste from the GPU Core, I used 91% alcohol and a q tip to remove it and a coffe filter to dry and remove any excess thermal paste. Then just put your favorite thermal compound onto the core, about medium thickness (cover the whole thing).
Step 4, Put a thick amount of thermal compound on the 4 ram chips around the core and the 4 on the back of the card.
Step 5, Then just feed the new ati silencer heatsink onto your video card and tighten the screws a little bit at a time (don't foget to use the two rubber garments on the screws without the bar). Make sure to get the screws tight enough to get good contact, but not to tight to damage your card.
This whole process took me about 10 minutes to complete and was well worth it. Take your time and enjoy your new temps.
