I have a KT266A board (Asus A7V266-E). And I have a PC2100 256 RAM, a single DIMM. If I opt to buy a memory upgrade, can I choose a 256 RAM but with different frequency like 333MHZ or 400MHz (PC2700 and PC3200 respectively)? I know its performance would be limited, but I would appreciate any comments regarding the matter. Thanks.

"If I opt to buy a memory upgrade, can I choose a 256 RAM but with different frequency like 333MHZ or 400MHz (PC2700 and PC3200 respectively)?" Yes you can. Higher speed memory is backward compatible and can run at slower speeds.

I think buying higher spec memory to go with your PC2100 would be a waste. Get more PC2100 256 or even 512 more as it is fairly cheap nowdays, where as PC2700 and up can still be a bit costly. Your better off saving your money, and maybe upgrade all your memory later on when it becomes cheaper, but still will you be overclocking? If not PC2100 is fine, if you are, mixing memory would be a waste also as you would be limited by the stick of PC2100 anyways.
