I'd to request different color themes for the Nvnews forums, something darker would be great.

:)

i love the color scheme myself, but i do think the "links visited" should have a different shade of blue so that you can tell which posts you've looked at more easily (i know, you can tell by the icon on the left, it would just be quicker that way is all).

The color scheme is fine for me, though I think I know what he means. Some sites have several different themes, and let the user pick which one they want. Not sure how many would care about such an option here though...

MikeC & JuiceZ, any feedback on this? :fkr:

Juice was looking into this originally (back when we made the upgrade to this latest vB version).

At Emutalk.net we have two themes, a light theme and a dark theme. I guess I'll post a screenshot of each later on :p

I think adding a dark theme for nV News would be kind of cool :D

Well the Dark Rage theme at Rage3d certainly doesn't depress me. To be honest the reason I'm asking is the bright white Nvnews theme bothers my eyes a little. That's why I'd like something darker.

If you genuinely feel depressed from darker colors, there are many perscription medications available. :p

Well it will be no problem to me as long as you have the option to choose your favorite color scheme like what 3dgamers.com (http://www.3dgamers.com) do :)

seriously speaking though perhaps mike can hold a contest for best new theme design and stuff... maybe had a new logo for the new theme options too :DI designed a new (refreshed) logo for the site back when we upgraded. It's only here in the forums though. The original site logo is still on the rest of the site's pages.

My new logo:

If anyone has any good tutorial links on creating vB themes send them my way. I played around with changing some of the images used for cell backgrounds and some CSS changes right after the upgrade but I got busy with some other things and never got back to it.

Yeah yeah yeah. I know. :D I did provide a transparent GIF originally but I think Mike might have changed it since then a bit. :)

Actually that blue on black theme at rage3d did bother my eyes some. But because they offered alternative themes, I just changed it...

What I'd suggest, if peeps are interested in hearing is if one adds a dark theme, allow it to be user selectable in the user configuration settings. Then peeps who want the darker theme can set their user preferences to it, and those who want a lighter setting, could set their user preference accordingly. Then everyone happy :)

might i suggest a .png as opposed to a .gif? .png's have much more accurate alpha layers than .gifs do, and look _much_ better; especially when changing the background from white to black etc. the only problem with it is i heard that internet exploader doesn't always render them properly (not so that you can't see them, but with a white background sometimes instead of transparent). i can't confirm or deny this though.

i would love to see a dark theme just for an option personally... i have to agree that at times the black on white can be too contrasting for my eyes in the hours of reading i do each day here. the only issue i could think of is that the smileys might look like poop on a darker background. oh well, that may be a price i'm willing to pay to help my eyes relax at times, though not always.

PNGs do have a lot of positives over the old GIF format. But as you pointed out, compatibility is more important for the time being so we'll stick with GIF. There are also some exploits in the PNG format under Firefox which can bring the browser down immediately.

Dark text on a pure white background is not the ideal contrast scenario for easier readability. We might look into making the posts' background area a light shade of gray or blue instead of white.

This is a good thread, good stuff. :)
