At what extent do you believe in WAREZ content ?

Maybe an endless circle clicking, just to collect money for advertisers. It's just always asking for voting again, and never shows anything.

Or, who knows, It's more like a lottery. The ticket is the click, and you have a 0,001% of getting something.

I never knew of anyone getting something there, except a friend of mine ( I still don't believe), 5 or 6 years ago, when warez was still a beginner organization.

This thread isn't related to the Doom 3 leak by any chance? :D

99% of warez sites are a hoax, don't waste your time.

I've actually found lots of warez sited to be full of content with only one "vote for me" request and an occasional banner. Places like Easywarez, and navnetwork. (I'm not posting the URL) So... it's not all about "vote for me, give me hits, click click summore," though there are some lamers out there who do that just for that without actually having content... do a search for PSX ISOs and you'll get a site with the same thumbnails and yellow background for every listing, and no matter what you click on it's more "click here vote first click here go there do this that and everything else."

mmm I feel a tangent coming on... I think i'll stop now.

we complain about not getting new games and better games.. and other kinds of software also, but why should the game developers care if everyone just rips off their work... wouldnt make me too motivated either.

$5? don't you think that's a bit ridiculous from the publisher's/dev's point of view?

I would like to see someday a way to download programs, and games which are whole through a filesharing network. This would allow for very low overhead and the prices should be brought down to $5 or less as opposed to $50.

This is one of the more ridiculous ideas I've heard. How much do you think it costs to make packaging for a game and distribute it? Probably $5-10 per game.

Now think about how much it would cost to keep high-bandwidth servers up 24/7, have them be secure, and of course could only be used by those with broadband.

Which is going to be more expensive?

oh yeah... forgot one thing.

$5-10 per game if it comes in Old-Style Big Box, includes Big Manual (a la Janes), and has a nice CD case.

So... if those aren't true, you're looking at $2.50.

So it's BETTER that games are published as they are so more of the profit goes to the companies (and therefore back to the developers). It means that we get more games :p

exactly, if it was a break even business with little to no chance for profits, who would bother going through the tenous process of producing a game anyway? not many.

I agree with madthumbs. You could pay to get a exclusive password, and so download the game. It would be cheaper since you wouldn't have shiping costs.
The broadband wouldn't be so broad for each user, 50kbyte/s at most. But at this rate you can get a CD in 3h40 minutes.

There should be strict policies of shceduled downloads. For example, you get your pass, access the server with it. The server will tell you when a dowload spot will open for you.

The less the game costs and sells for tho the less incentive for developers to make new and better games.

I only mess with gamez (er, that's the thing all the sites use for warez'd games) because I want to see if the final release version of something is worth paying for. In the past, when demos and such were actually representative of the final product, I could tell legally just by trying out the demo. But around the same time as Q3 came out, I started to see a trend where demos were released prior to the game, and I found them enjoyable. But when the final game was released, it had changed enough that I didn't enjoy it.

For instance, the Q3 'tests' I loved a LOT. Played em almost as much as I did the UT demo. I was split about 50/50 in my gametime between the two. But when the final Q3 was released, it looked the same, but the physics and weapons balance I had grown to love in the tests was different, enough so that I really don't enjoy it. I spent the money on it, and feel as if I was a victim of a bait-and-switch. (well, sort of. At least ID published the fact that there were changes. Some developers don't even do that). So now unless I've seen the game firsthand (maybe one of my local friends has a legal copy), I often will look for a warez version, try that out a little while, long enough to get a feel for it, and then buy the legal copy if I like it, or just delete it / throw away the CD-R if I don't. That's why I bought RtCW, btw. I LOVED the warez game. The only thing missing was online play. I only played the first level or two and was hooked, so I bought the game.

As far as other software goes, some of that I WILL warez. Mainly because the developers / publishers charge such outrageous prices for the software. A good example of this (which btw, I don't have, but have seen available as warez) is Caere OmniPage Pro 10. When I bought my scanner, it came packaged with the Lite version of the software, with an offer to 'upgrade' to the full version for only $99. That in itself wasn't so bad. But by the time I decided I actually could use it, my grace period for the special offer was over. I would've bought it anyway, but when I checked out the prices on the retail, it was close to $800! There's no way that the software is worth $800. I might've been willing to go as high as $150 retail, but that's practically robbery.(I didn't need it that bad, and so I didn't get it. But there have been others that I have d/l warez'd versions of that were similar). If they'd lower their prices to something more reasonable, sales would pick up, and warez would drop. (There'd surely be those that would still use illegal copied, but a much smaller percentage than it is now)

As far as warez www sites go, most really are just a bunch of popup revenue generators. The real useful stuff has to be found elsewhere.
