I wonder if France is considering taking a stand against their demands. There wouldn't be any harm in trying something new.

they were warned repeatedly last week on the issue...

I am not aware of the official policy of the government...

what would you propose they try as something new?

The French wont do anything but give into their demands. I will say this, if a company has a employee kidnapped by terrorist then they should do what they need to do to get that employee back even if that means leave the country and meet their demands.

Man, this just confounds me, why would the terrorists kidnap one of their French allies? Just a ploy to help make it so the French don't look as much like terrorist allies?

I don't buy it, they're probably having drinks with the French people they "kidnapped".

Proof that appeasement & avoidance doesn't work with terrorists.

France was completely against the Iraq war

"PARIS - France will not revoke a law banning Muslim head scarves in public schools despite demands by a militant Islamic group holding two French journalists hostage in Iraq, the government spokesman said Monday."

"Chirac appealed on Sunday to the kidnappers, implicitly reminding them that France opposed the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq."

**

The militants responded that even if France didn't attack offensively, their law on the head scarfs is a "defensive" attack.

Show weakness, and terrorists will try to even control laws in your own society.

"The abduction shook the notion that France's opposition to the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq gave some safety to French citizens amid the rash of kidnappings in Iraq. Some Iraqi militants have previously spared French passport holders - even freeing one man in April after he was able to prove his citizenship by showing his knowledge of French geography.

The demand to end the head scarf ban was the first time hostage-takers sought to reverse a nation's domestic law. Insurgents in Iraq have kidnapped dozens of people, but until know their demands have focused on pushing nations' troop or companies out of Iraq.

Iraqi interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi said the hostage crisis showed France cannot escape terrorists.

"France will not be spared - no more than Italy, Spain, or Egypt," Mr. Allawi said in an interview published Monday in Le Monde newspaper. "Governments that decide to remain on the defensive will be the next targets of terrorist ... Avoiding confrontation is not a response.""

it only proves what a retard allawi is...

spain, egypt and france have all dealt with terrorism for a lot longer than allawi has...

:retard:

france opposed the actions in iraq not for the safety of their people but because chirac did not believe the action was warranted... include germany and russia in that group as well...

allawi has to learn to extract his foot from his mouth when he speaks ESPECIALLY when making bone-headed comments... perhaps he forgets that w/o NATO help the iraqi interim government is not going to move to far forward on dealin with security issues...

if you show you are weak to terrorists, they try to control laws and policy in your own country through terror.

now because of their displayed weakness every little turn france makes that terrorists dont like, even on their own home policy, they will either have to make the choice of facing terrorist attack or becoming a terrorist puppet.

Wrong, they opposed it because Saddam owed them money, with Saddam in power they had a shot at recovering it. Us overthrowing Saddam was like a bankruptcy reorganization with dismissal of debt, THAT is why they complained and opposed the war. Plus France had some "questionable" ties to terrorists, which roots my belief that this is just a ploy and the terrorists doing a favor for France.

I bet those "hostages" are in a hammock somewhere being served drinks.

Sazar, not to demerit your comments, because about Allawi I completely agree. The guy has made even DUMBER remarks than Bush has. Quite a feat indeed, plus he throws in all this "God willing" crap.

Actually France and Russia opposed the war due to the fact that they would lose BILLIONS in lost arms deals with Saddam. It's French and Russian weapons out there killing everyone.

PS: In 20 or so years, remember me saying this: France and Israel pose a larger threat to the world right now than any nation on Earth. No need to debate, just remember reading that statement in the future.
