Does anyone know if Riva TNT2 is compatible with Call of Duty. I recently purchased the game, loaded on PC and tried to play and get OpenGL errors. Says to update drivers which I did and still no luck.

If I can't use TNT2, what are my options?

The TNT series of cards do not support hardware transform and lighting, which will make them incompatible with just about any modern game.

For less than US$100, you can purchase a GeForce4 Ti4200 which will give you all the power you need to play CoD. Use that as a stopgap until you can afford something more powerful.

I agree. the GeForce4 Ti 4200 is the best videocard for someone who just wants something to play some recent games. You can even play Doom III with it, but only at 800X600 with the detail turned down. Still, the game will look good and be playable. The TNT2 should be in a museum by now.

So you're saying that a TNT2 is somehow better or on the same level as a 5900?

I put 9500 on accident because my other computer has an ATI Radeon 9500 pro.

The TNT2 is a great card. I used to have it, and it worked with call of duty! but only with the latest drivers from www.nvidia.com. so it should work.
btw it shouldnt be in a museum u foolz its the only card i havent had problems with and it runs everything. (except bf, doom, halo.) so there :P

I had a TNT2 32meg card, and it wouldnt run much to be honest. A quick change to a cheap GeForce 2 MX solved all my problems, and this was some time ago.

Hi all,

This is my first post here, so I know better than to ask you to be gentle....especially with the problem I'm having.

I actually have, yes HAVE, a RIVA TNT2 ULTRA 32MB AGP card! (You may shudder now)

After you get all your wisecracks out ("is that what cavemen used to view their drawings?" etc), maybe someone can offer some advice on getting the thing to work, not for gaming, just working.

Yes, I know I can get a better card cheap etc etc. ;)

The problem, which I've seen others report elsewhere too, is that the card causes the system to hang during the bootup. (I can boot into safe mode, or VGA mode @ 640x480/8bit)

I humble myself before you gods of gaming to request your assistance in this matter...

My "Model T" setup:

P3 800Mhz
Jabil Maverick 440BX board 100Mhz FSB
Integrated ATI Rage Pro 4MB (ick)
640MB RAM
WinXP Pro
Current 67.20 nVidia Drivers (Didn't work with 66.93 either)

Thanks in advance for any help.

Well put sedgy. I used to have a 500mhz comp with a TNT2 in it and it worked great. It definately had a harder time with the new stuff, but it still played sweet. Sure you wont have all that fancy stuff (nowadays) but at least you get to play the game.
So do what sedgy suggested and you should be ok. Otherwise, there are some really dirt cheap replacement cards out there (if worst comes to worst).

Download the absolute earliest revision drivers you can find and try using those. For XP, I think that was version 30.82. You should be able to download them off the archive on NVIDIA's FTP server. Basically any drivers created after the 2x.xx line were not made with the TNT in mind (though those drivers didn't support XP).

OK, firstly, thanks for the advice. (I had seen some say that older drivers might be better, but was unsure)

Now, what happened....

I dl'd the specific drivers you mentioned, and tried them, but there was no change. (I even deleted the original driver files out of the system32 folder first)

I then went back to the ftp (ftp://download.nvidia.com/Windows/), and noticed that version 21.81 had a winxp exe, so I tried that, but it still isn't working, although that time around it did ask if I wanted to replace some files that didn't start with "nv", and I said yes. (Forget which)

There's a gap between 12.41 to 21.81 in that folder, so I'm unsure if there were other older versions that might work, and have been removed. (Are there?)

Dunno what I should try now, but any further advice is appreciated.

Try a really cheap geforce 2 or 4, believe me all your problems will go away.

Now, I'm sure someone must have run across the solution awhile back, as I've seen a few reports similar to mine.

Until that PC with PCI-E comes along, this is what I have to work with. (rudolf)

Hope you can help.
