Hy

I have a NVidia NForce based Motherboard. Now I wantet to install Suse 8.1 from the Internet. So I downloaded the image, burned it onto CDR and booted from it. But now, I have to install the driver for my NIC. But I dont know witch driver to choose. And I also don't know how to install the driver without having writing permissions onto the CD!

Thanks for everyhelp

I remember that I had a similar problem with SuSE 7.0
there was no driver for my raid-controller (3ware)
so I recompiled the SuSE delivered linuxrc and added
the controller driver to the menu, took the install kernel
sources and built the needed module, put it on the
diskimage and burnt the cd

the only problem is, that you need access to
another already installed computer.

but maybe there will be an update fro the modules disk.....

cheers

Oh, sounds difficult. So I think, I'll install mandrake!

seems that the procedure is a little easier nowadays,
but I wouldn't bother trying it.

we needed SuSE 7.0 for a customer, so there was _no_ choice.
on the other hand, what about buying? install from DVD and get
the driver running after install is complete? or maybe just put a
different NIC in, just for installation purposes? shouldn't be that
hard to get a supported NIC from a friend :)
