Hi,

I have a Geforce 4 ti4200 using 41.03 drivers, AMD 1.3ghz Tbird, 512mb of PC133 ram, 27Gb HD, Windows 2000 using Direct X 8.1b.

For some strange reason I cannot run any Direct 3D games or software such as 3D Mark 2001SE or Unreal Tournment 2003. Soon as the game/software loads up it crashes within 4-5 seconds either throwing me back to windows or completely frezzing or rebooting my system. Seems like the computer is overheating however I can play any OpenGL game for hours and run windows for hours with no problems. Any information would be most appreciated.

Kind Regards,

jonjay

What does DXDiag.exe show.

It shows that everything is certified correctly...can't see anything indicating that something is wrong, the D3D tests even work.

try disabling some advanced features such as Fast Writes in the BIOS, or lowering the AGP setting to 2X.

Seeing as it's only DirectX programs that are crashing, might it be a corrupted DirectX file? Probably not, but worth checking.

what motherboard is it that you are using and are you using the latest bios for it?

I tried disabling fastwrites, lowering AGP speed to no success and reinstalled windows many times over also. I got a gigabyte 7ZXR mobo, think it must be damaged and overheating but it doesn't make sense that direct x games crash and not opengl. You would think if it was overheating it would crash in both?

UPDATE: I managed to fix my problem finally after so many weeks of fustration. Update my bios to 'another' version and it worked. Thanxs to all the people who replied.
