I have suse 8.0 installed on a 1.2 ghz amd, geforce 3, w/ 384 ram. I have installed the rpms from nvidia according to instructions. I received no errors during installation, glxgears work at about 59 fps.

Heres my problem.
When I try to run a game like quake3 or tuxracer, they're VERY SLOW. The video is very choppy and I can barely move my mouse.

Can someone help me w/ this problem? I've always had this problem since redhat 6.2 days and I was never able to get games to work smoothly in linux.

Thank you

You could be running into any number of things. To start, please post a copy of your /var/log/XFree86.0.log file.

Are you sure you have a GeForce 3? Your X log says you have a Vanta with 8MB of video RAM, which might explain why things appear slow. Your driver appears to be loading correctly. What's the output of 'glxinfo'?

I am 100% sure. How do I change this? I ran sax2 and had manually chosen the right card, but I still get Vanta in there for some reason.

What the X log prints out is not influenced by what you select with sax2. The driver queries the card and returns what is present based on PCI ID. Can you post the output of 'cat /proc/pci'? What does your video bios say at startup? What is the manufacturer and model number of your card?
