The nerd will always remain the nerd, because to be a nerd means to be out of step with the sensible, tangible, ACTUAL world, which is where a true nerd will always be. :)

Nerd out.

its the stigma of nerds being ugly, with glasses and overweight with grease stains all over his clothes that bugs me. i do lots of things besides play games. i play b-ball and the time and i am gonna try out for the Air Force team... but noone ever knows i play games. for some reason, no matter how well someone knows you, as soon as they know that.. they act differently towards you. they treat you like you spend all your nights staying up till 3 am playing D&D.

Great commentary. I always enjoy reading them every week, they always seem to relate to me :)

Anyways, most people don't know that I am really a nerd also. I always tried to hide that stuff most of the time. I played BBall through High School, was a fan of music that really isn't associated with geeks, little did they know that after practice, or school, I went home to tweek my slow system "then"

I'm a born nerd & i'll stay like that . people just dont understand ... being a nerd is good sometimes & might be bad other times . it depends .

thats why most of my friends are nerds as well .. i met most of them in the PC hardware/gaming stores lol :D

Instead of coming up with alternate terminology, I'm all for making "gamer" synonmous with "elite cyber sportsman".

(btw, welcome back, Brian!)

i dont think its a negative stigma at all. when i go to clubs, dance with a girl and she asks me what i do for a living, i tell her i'm a computer nerd. after that she laughs and probably assumes i have money. nerds are in

Until she realises that just cause you're a nerd doesn't mean you have any talent? :D

Actually the 'Oxford popular Dictionary' on my desk says:
Spelt: see spell 2

Maybe it's because my first langauge is English as opposed to American :)

I'm a computer programmer, so it depends on who asks what I say. Software Engineer sounds good but I think it still = nerd, but nerd with money( not that that is actually true :( )
