Hi all,

Just a quick warning regarding the Gigabyte 6800NU (the card that I have) - after getting the most recent version of Rivatuner, it appears that only 2 pixel quads and 4 vertex units are enabled on my card! Suckful eh? Well, conveniently I'm able to softmod it back to a proper 12 + 5 6800, but I'm unsure if the passive cooling is sufficient to cope with a full featured 6800 card! I'm stress testing now, and will get back with results. However, because it's 1 in the morning, I'm just using benchmarks and the NV demos (Nalu etc...)

So..... yikes eh? Be warned - this card was marketed as a full features NV40. It could be that I received a problem card, but I highly doubt it. As this is the case, it would appear that manufacturers can softmod cards as they please, and not suffer any consequences.

Well, not now, I've already softmodded it to a 12 x 5... So no. But I can assure you, I'm not kidding. Less than an hour ago it was running as it came, and that was 8 x 4.

Temps seem normal after softmodding, and everything seems just as stable as it used to be, only NOTICEABLY faster. 'S all good, And now I go to bed.

G'night all.

That sounds like an 6800LE.

Was your card full retail with box etc?

Was the core 320MHz or 325MHz? I think the LE is supposed to be 320MHz.

Mate, can you please do me a favor and post details on your board in this thread on guru3d?

No, it's a listed as a full 6800. No LE or nothing. And the Core runs at 325. I didn't find ANYTHING anywhere in the advertising that indicated that it might be a cut down version.

Good job! Glad I didn't get one. You will save many people from becoming homicidally angry with your endeavor.

Sorry to revive a dead thread, but I feel this needs to be said:

Gigabyte have released a new Bios for this card that fixes the 4 x 8 issue. It now runs as 12 x 5 by default, and is a 'beaut'. With passive cooling on a 6800 grade card... I mean, what more could you ask for in a quiet PC, really. Looks like they're not evil, just stupid. I mean... shipping the card with an LE Bios... what's up with that?

How can you ship a card with a wrong bios? It's unbelievable that something like that can happen! Gigabyte is just :lame: .
Glad your card works at the speed it should now.
