`no gainward does not have that many issues, its MSI that has faulty bios and such, gainward and leadtek are the best 6800 you can buy today.

Hi

Here's a link to a review of the Gainward 6800 GT (Golden Sample), .... very nice card.

I have the Gainward 6800 Ultra, .... and have had no problems at all.

Cheers

I just purchased a Gainward GT (dual slot, dual DVI, non-GS) from Monarch computers.

I've been playing Doom 3 @ 1280x1024, high quality settings with no problems at all - beautiful! Since I have a Samsung 710T LCD I have vertical sync forced on so my framerates are usually 60 fps with some drops to 30 fps in fancier scenes.

I've also played some enemy territory @ 1280x1024 at the best settings and my framerates are usually around 90 (limited I think since it's acting like it's a ceiling) but with some tearing. I don't know why vertical sync is not working in this game... But, again, beautiful!

For background info: I have a P4 2.4 oc'd to 2.7 ghz, p4pe mobo (533 mhz), 1 gb pc2700 ram

Overclocking-wise, I've been able to take it up to 400/1100 and play Doom 3 for hours without any issues. (I have it back down to stock since I don't really need it right now and I want to keep the temps down)

The only complaint that I have about this card is the loudness of the fan. There are 2 fans and when it's going full blast, it's really loud. It's the loudest thing in my machine right now. (Keep in mind that my 9800 pro before had an arctic silencer and my cpu has a zalman cooler) Thankfully, the bios allows the fan speed to adjust based on temp or 2D vs. 3D. I have it set to run at 50% when running 2D apps and 80% when running 3D apps.

Hope this helps!

right well it squeals like a pig with the fans on full whack but it's justified considering the clocks it's pulling in with that cooling design -- 440/1.18Ghz for me.

I run my fans at the same speed - 50%2D & 80%3D

no problems with mine (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=3071123) :nanahump:

The Gainward 6800 GT GS (400/1100) is in stock and 460 here.
A PNY 6800 GT is only 365 but not in stock.
Is the Golden Sample really worth that much? It's 100 more! For only 30@ more i can order a real ULTRA but they are nowwhere to be seen. ******* paper launch just as bad as ATI's XT PE. :argh:

mine was 39 (57) more expensive than the other GT's besides the oem's. The ultra was an extra 100 to the standard GT's and 60 more than my GS GT. It's definitely not worth THAT much more :lame:

It would seem I picked up a good deal because the stock page at ocuk has changed since I ordered. They originally had them priced at 289.95 and have since changed that to a, "this week only offer" and are upping the price to 299.95 as of next week. Might have got some flak from gainward to keep in-line with competitor's pricing of their product range? :POKE:
