Is it me, or does it seem very bad for ATi, when an overclocked 6600GT is beating the X800 Pro?

Very nice if its cheap ,overclocked beats stock X800Pro ,but offcourse you can overclock X800PRO realy good to , even get 16 pipes from Vivos, but thats different price range.....

only in one situation @ a lower res... but regardless its not a positive message for ati :)

That was hard to read, but are these tests really correct? I mean, can 6600 GT really be faster than 6800 retial.

It's also with no eye canddy on so bandwith is not being used as much. Also the X800Pro 3D mark score is very low, what 8600pts? Should be around 10k.

yeah none of these results stress the cards too heavily in terms of the mmeory bandwidth department:D, but the results look very good for 1024x768, a great res for a mid range card.

That X800 might be meant to be the X700 - the price point competitor for the 6600.

Found some prices on the 6600 serise cards. 660 Regular http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=302675&cks=SER ,6600GT http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=302678&cks=SERBut you can get a 680 Regular for around 178~230 anyway so there is very little diffrence really.

Damn. The 6600gt is 2x faster than the X700 in Doom 3? The regular 6600 fairs quite well too and it seems to be an insane overclocker.

Today the NDA should be lifted, so prepare to see more benchies soon :)
I'm looking forward to read NVnews and Beyond3D reviews.

I think you all missed some important points, I looked at all benchmarks, Geforce 6600 & GT are damn very impressive, I am very amazed to see 110 overclocked 128Mb 5.0ns Geforce 6600 with 128bit memory bus slaughtered 150 Radeon 9800XT with 256bit memory bus and Geforce 5950 Ultra with 256bit memory bus that many are still on sales today. Also it managed to unseated 300 X800 Pro with 12 pipelines on some benchmarks and gave 350 X800 XT PE with 16 pipelines a black eye in Doom 3 benchmark. (omg)

ATI had lost the high end sector and with mainstream this time again, 100 range Geforce 6600 are ATI's worst nightmare. Just about everybody in UK can afford 110 superwonder bargain card that have PS 3.0 and it can overclock easy, it will be the best selling hot cake since Geforce 4 Ti 4200 at the same price here 2 years ago. :)

I wonder how much will I get when I will sell my 5900 Ultra on ebay later this year when I will get NV48? I was hoped to get around 150, but after this, 5900 Ultra is probably now worth 25 or even priceless. (omg)

Where'd you see that?

Where'd you see that?

It's from the first link Mike gave us. Here's the particular page...

http://www.pcpop.com/vga/04/9/46061/7.shtml

The GF 6600 was overclocked to 550/750 from a stock speed of 300/500. OC'd It beats the FX5950 U and Rad 9800XT in Doom 3. Not bad in 3D Mark 2003 either. The OC'd GF6600 gets 7,600 onionmarks at stock it gives you 4,900 onionmarks. Wow! That's a 55% performance gain with overclocking.

That makes it look like a GREAT upgrade from say a 4600 or 5700NU... :)

My X800 breaks 10k at stock, I think 8700 is a bit low for the card.

The more I read the reviews, the more I'm convinced the 6600GT is the best bang for the buck of this generation, the worthy sucessor of the GF4Ti4200. Its performance is well balanced and NVidia made cuts and savings only where it was needed. The result is a card which outperforms the last generation's high end offerings but which is much cheaper. The 6600GT is what the Fx5800 should have been but 18 months too late.

Guess my FX5700U will hit the trash can soon :D

What CPU are they using? I only get in the lower 9k range at stock with my X800 Pro. I get in the mid-to-upper 10k range with it overclocked quite a bit.

with some of the reviews out now, a 5900XT is betting the 6600GT in some test. Dave at beyond3d now thinks its a 4X2 and not a 8X1.

I've found the technical dissertion done by Beyond3D very interesting. Judging from the synthetic tests done it seems a 4x2 architecture but more flexible than the past designs.

Seems like a great card for the $$ -plays well in doom 3, farcry, ut2k4, halo, and others....oc's well...and even beats a x800 pro in some cases...cant go wrong for $199.99.
