short interview with D.kirk

Q:why NV30 was delayed?
A:because of TSMC's manufacturing problem

Q:when is the release date of NV30?
A:we will launch NV30 at this fall COMEX
and at december you can use it.

Q:does it outperform Radeon9700 pro?
A:(with a smile)althouth I can't show you figures
but I'm sure NV30 would outform Radeom9700pro

other information about NV30?
look around here..

125 Million tranistors. That's about what has been expected.

What about the 51 GFlops number for the pixel shader? And the "more floating point power than a Cray SV1."

Two weeks should be here soon.

shoot do they don't think we can comprehend what 125 million is ? lol

That the NV30 can play DOOM 3 at 1024 x 768 or 1200 x 1024, 4X AA, 16X AF at 100 fps avg.

If it can do that, I'm buying it. If not, I still may buy it or wait till whatever is next. Kindof indecisive I know but its the best I can do

doesn't Doom 3 max out at 60fps? that's something that has been thrown around as being true. several reputable people have touted that as the truth anyway.

How Cpu limited will doom 3 be, everyone is running off saying they want this from this card they want that ect...

But you cant do much unless you remove any other bottlenecks that are preventing you from reaching higher frames per second.

The CPU and RAM need to be upgraded to to avoid bottlenecking the NV30. But I am figuring on having an updated system to put the card in to avoid the bottlenecks. This will include a 2ghz or over AMD (or maybe Intel) cpu and 512 megs PC2700 or faster Corsair Cas2 memory

I heard the 60 fps limit too. If ID is serious about that, than I would accept it as an average for the resolution I mentioned.

it isnt limited to 60hz. It can be set to do this, or any other value, or disabled.

why do people keep saying that then :(

also, are there or are there not PS/VS effects in Doom 3. people seem to be saying no, and then some of the *ahem* less knowledgable people who played the alpha say there are. but then, the same people said that the water in UT2003 used PS, and it doesn't.

Chances are Id will probably let you set the max fps in the config files just like they do in Q3A. I'm sure when Doom3 comes out someone will find a work around for the 60fps thingy anyways we'll just have to wait & see besides 60fps aint bad for a graphicly intensive game like doom3 anyways so what's everyone complaining about? I mean over at infogrames forums on UT2K3 there's a lot of people with kick ass systems that aren't getting much more than 40 or so fps & are happy with the results!!!!

Doom III is said to have very simple AI, and be a super complex graphics splendor. Just like Quake III before it, I feel as though Doom III will be much more videocard dependant instead of CPU.

There is! Ppl who says there isn't, dont know their ass from their elbow!

the bumpmapping in doom3 is a pixel shader effect. The advanced per pixel lighting is a pixel shader effect.

Vertex shaders aren't used much, cos animation is done on the cpu side, but it's mainly used for setting up vectors for the per pixel lighting.

so people using cards that have Pixel Shaders will get better looking graphics than those who don't? or cards with PS will simply be faster?

Carmack has said that the GF1 is the technology base for Doom 3, when did this change?

What I think he meant was that you would probably need a GF1 or equivalent Video card to run the game decently, & I think the only real thing that people with vid cards that support pixel/vertex shaders are some extra eye-candy other than that most of the games graphics wouldn't be much different.
