I recently walked into a local CompUSA and to my surprise found that they had BFG 6800GTs and Ultras. What disturbed me is that the Ultra was selling for $639.99!!! WTF?!? Isn’t the MSRP on 6800 Ultras $499? I understand an online retailer price gouging but CompUSA? I wonder if this is happening at all CompUSA stores…

Cost on an Ultra from vendor is still about $510... but $639 is still price gouging.

On line prices are always cheaper not to mention no sales tax.

Tell that to the retailers who were charging in upwards of $700-900 for an X800XT. Plus, the only time you are not charged sales tax on an online order is when the retailer does not have a store or distribution center in your home state.

Didnt think a Comp-usa retail store would sink so low...but in a way I can't blame them, they're all about the $$ and if consumer's are willing to shell it out-that's their fault. I highly doubt they would mark the price up so high if they werent selling them @ that inflated monstrosity. But for casual gamer's or people that aren't spoiled 17 year olds with rich parents, it certainly does suck. =/

I thought CompUSA price match and if you foud it cheaper somewhere else in thirty days they would refund the difference.

I thought that only applies for a physical brick and mortor store..

still, doesn't hurt to try though.

You have to expect that most vendors are going to charge more for a card like the 6800 Ultra or X800 XT PE that are in such heavy demand and limited supply. It's only worth what someone will pay for it, and it appears that some geeks out there are willing to pony up to have the best.

That's not much cheaper than an Australian 6800GT!

Exactly, and another thing is that i was at a fry's and saw a whole row of pny gt's, 399, than ONE bfg GT and it was also 399! but i checked out outpost.com, frys outpost, it said THERE that the bfg was freakin 499!? WTF?

Yeah but then you find something like this:

http://shop1.outpost.com/product/4082662

go figure

I guess the link is dead now. but it was a bfg 6800gt for 349.

The Fry's here had a bunch of BFG 6800GT cards and about 4 PNYs - all for $399.

Not Video cards but price gouging none the less.

10' DVI/DVI cable from Best buy - $150 for 'monster' brand
10' DVI/DVI cable from newegg - $14.

Yeah....

exactly, WTF? i just got done looking at the bfg not 3 days ago and it was like 499. OMG the industry is mentally deficient, and marketers and corpoations are money hungary selfish pigs that should be shot but CANT because than there would be chaos. Because wthout corp. the world would become a vacuum in a way and every countries money would be worth less.....man i love venting and going overboard...but none the less, im sorry.

This time you can fully blame ATi for an inferior product within every price/performance class I guess if you're going that overboard.

TheHelpful1 : Just FYI the DVI cable from Best Buy while it is still over priced at $150 is not the same DVI cable from newegg at $14. The DVI at bestbuy can hook up a HDCP HDTV to a HDCP compliant device (Like a HDTV Tuner/ Upconverting DVD player). The DVI cable from new egg will probably not work when hooking up those devices because it is only ment to hook up a PC monitor to a video card.

I'd hit em with the pricematch to Fry's or BB if ya can. Fry's is selling all models for MSRP except for the Leadtek GTs..those are $449.

I Didn't think a CompUSA would sink so low. Of course they're all about the $$. I can't believe that they would raise their prices so high that expect to sell at such a high inflated monstrosity price, and I can't believe that they would be getting away with this
