I got a chance to get any of these cards @ 100 USD. I'm a little confused so i wanted to know what nvnews users think of it. One of my friends is selling this cards & i'll buy one but the problem is which one? Please share your ideas with me. please vote & post here.

dude the 9700 pro is a card in its own class. Smacked all other cards around in that generation. The choice is clear.

Tough call. The 9700Pro has the DX9 factor going for it the ABIT has the OTES and I believe very fast RAM on it.

Hmm, that is kinda a close one...the 9700pro will definatly do better in shader intense games (like Half-life 2, Farcry), but the 5900 rules in OpenGL (Neverwinter Nights, Doom 3). Though the 9700 does have better AA/Aniso...hmm, well, I'd say go for the 9700pro, for that price it can't be beat. Just one thing though...

I'm a little confused so i wanted to know what rag3d users think of it.

I don't think you want to know what Rage3d thinks, but that's why you came here, right ;)

No question, 9700 Pro all the way. Small formfactor, uses only a floppy power connector, has great DX/AA/AF performance. For that price you won't go wrong.

Wow the answer is that clear? I thought the 5900 got a bit more respect recently... guess not :p

I'm a little surprised by all these responses here, I expect more support for the FX5900. In an overclocked situation the 5900 should perform better overall, but the R9700Pro probably keeps the advantage with shaders and AA/AF (something Nvidia really screwed up in the FX series).

The other thing I don't like is your chocie of FX, the OTES is one frigin loud card. It's the same design as the FX5800 dust buster. So between those choices, I also agree the R9700Pro makes more sense.

If you have picked a different FX5900, with a sleaker design and still overclockable, I might have vote differently.

So why am I using the FX5900XT and not a R9700Pro? Because I like Nvidia drivers better (nView, digital vibrance) :p

9700 Pro, went to one from a 5900, IQ is much better, and its just as fast if not faster in many games.

You are wrong about OTES:

ABIT claims that this cooling solution only puts out 25 decibels of sound, making for a very quite fan compared to some other solutions. OTES technology is still present with a two slot design providing heatpipe technology to draw the heat to the fins where the fan blows the heat outside of the case, helping to keep the inside of your case cooler.

The 9700 Pro is actually quite a bit faster than a 5900XT in Farcry, approaching 5900 Ultra performance. As you can see in the first page, the 9800 which is a bit slower than the 9700P clearly outperforms the 5900XT. In the second link, the 9700 Pro is very close to a 5900 Ultra.

How much can a 9700 overclock usually? 5-10% maybe ??? I have yet to see a 5900xt that can't overclock 15%, most I've seen overclock 20%. Plus, with the bios mods for the 5900xt, its fun value is a lot higher than a 9700pro, IMO. The 9500pro had a similar fun value to the 5900xt, but they're impossible to find now.

My Radeon 9700 Pro would clock from 325/310 to 355/355, ran it like that for 2 years.

Bare in mind when comparing on farcry that with patch 1.1 the gffx produces incomparable image quality. Also the fx 5900 ultra is faster than its clock speed would indicate than the fx 5900nu in farcry due to having 256mb of ram while the fx 5900nu only has 128mb (firingsquad showed significant differences with the addition of 128mb)

Even on patch 1.1 the 9700 pro is atleast the same if not better than the fx 5900nu. With patch1.2 and the same quality on both cards the gap only widens

This thread is going nowhere fast, in my book both are great choices, as well as what the poll says. This is perfect for an endless Ati vs NV argument since not much performance wise separates both cards.
