I have noticed fairly large increases in opengl performance over the last few releases. It used to stutter when i put the extra texture detail in call of duty on cat 4.4. now its lightning fast with aa and as whacked up.
similar performance improvements in KOTOR. still has stupid resetting gamma problem though.
with this version i notice that the frame rate is similar to the doom 3 version in timedemo but it feels smoother and has improved image quality.
Thats about all the opengl games i have that i havent played to death, and ive completed doom and cod so its not that big an issue for me.
direct 3d has improved too. far cry and ut2004 performance is up with this latest set.
Main problem is the new control panel is pretty buggy and breaks the refresh rates but at least they offer an alternative.

Anyone else having a problem with 3dmark01? I can't launch it any more. It shows up briefly in the task list but then just disappears. Nothing shows up in event viewer either for errors, nor on the screen. I've tried reinstalling but it didn't help.
I'm not 100% sure catalyst 4.9 has anything to do with this but I do know the program worked when I first built the PC (used cat 4.8 @ 1st).
consider installing the patch separately...
I have had the issue a coupla times after a format... installing the patch separately made it work fine...

There's a patch? I'm installing build 330... This is 3dmark01 remember, not 03 where you have to load direcpl.dll afterwards. ;)
that patch should be available separately I believe... I dunno why it happens but sometimes the installed/pre-patched version would not work but if I applied the patch separately it worked fine...
/me shrugs...
some software is just weird...

This is way off topic, but, dammnit, I keep cross-associating saturn with that hot asian chick that used to be his avatar. I'm really messed up :retard:

What has it been, 10 driver releases since they screwed up gamma?

actually the gamma seems to have been fixed for quake 3 engine games. I just continue to have the problem with KOTOR. What I am wondering is whether the gamma for opengl in ut99 has been fixed but i cant be bothered to find out.

ATI has no choice but to completely rewrite their OpenGL code over several driver releases. Just look at Doom3! People are snappin' up GeForce 6800 GT's like they is goin' outta style, know what I'm sayin'? :drooling:

I'm one of those people. For months I was looking forward to the X800 Pro, but when I saw the Doom3 benchmarks and the report that the GT would be more "futureproof" (if there is such a thing) I bit the bullet and got myself an Albatron 6800 GT.
It's quite a nice card, but to be honest my 9800 Pro ran most games (other than Doom3) smoother than the 6800 even though at a slower framerate. Doom 3 is incredible though!
