I normally post at Rage 3D (not too much though) but I figured since I swapped my card for a new 6 series maybe I could post here too. :D

For the most part my 9800XT was excellent, I just wanted better Open GL support and less visual abnormalities. So I bought a BFG 6800GT OC, and so far so good. Im using the 61.77s.

A little background for me... Ive been building machines for about 9 years (mostly high-performance rigs). Ive owned just about every video chipset under the sun at one point or another. ViRGE, Rendition, Matrox (G400MAX), Voodoo1, Voodoo2, Voodoo3, Voodoo5, KyroII, TNT2 Ultra, GF2, GF3, GF Ti4600, and now the 6800GT.
My Radeon 9800XT was my second ATI product after the Rage Fury Maxx abortion, and probably my last for the forseeable future. Again, the 9800XT was excellent in most of my games, it's just that I want better drivers for a $400+ (at the time I bought it) card.

anyway some benches from the switch...
Old scores with the 9800XT (4.9 beta, 4.2 with 3dmark)...
Aquamark3 - 46,349
3DMark2003 - 6,456
Doom 3 Timedemo@1024(High Detail) - 44

New scores on the 6800GT (61.77)...
Aquamark3 - 60,054
3DMark2003 - 11,299
Doom 3 Timedemo@1024(High Detail) - 69.7 @1280 (High Detail) - 67.5

one last thing.... please dont flame the Rage3D crowd. ALOT of them are really nice, knowledgable, and mature posters. There are a few fanATIcs there, but Im sure there are afew Nvidiots here too. :D

3dmark was at default settings build 340. the radeon score was with the 4.2 drivers, i havent benched them with the 4.9 betas.
I have nothing OC'ed in my machine (dont need to with anything as of yet), and even the drivers are at default settings.

Thanks for the welcome btw :D

6800(nu/gt/u) are great cards :)

I recently upgraded too, and I never thought Id see this much speed in my puter.

Just curious, how come you switch to nVidia ?
I know I would not feel confotable if I changed to Ati as Im so used to nvidia drivers and how they generaly work. Though the thoght has crossed my mind to switch.
But I went with nvidia as 6800 has ps3.0

To all so far- Thx for the welcome.

SH64-
I know, I play everything at 1280 though. I like the silky smoothness. :)

EciDemon-
Ive always been happy with Nvidia and Ive had more and installed more Nvidia cards then any other vid card. I had a bad driver experience with the Rage Fury Maxx a long time ago and I swore I would never buy another ATI again.... until DX9 showed up.
Back then I wanted a DX9 card and based on the reviews the 9800XT was trouncing Nvidias 5 series. I still was nervous spending $499 on an ATI so I researched it on the net, and asked the opinions of alot of my former clanmates (UT/UT2003/UT2004), and other clan buddies. Most were happy so I gave it a shot thinking its been a few years, maybe the drivers are better as everyone told me.
It was good with alot of games, and it wasnt good with some games (including a few faves like KotOR, NWN etc). I also wanted the Open GL support that I was used to with Nvidia.
For that kind of cash I expected more from ATI.

You definitely don't have to be an NVIDIA fan to post here! I'm biased towards whichever company can give me the most for my money. ;)

Welcome!

the mods here dont appreciate this talk of people at other forums and other forums in general. We may not appreciate it but that doesn't mean that we're going to heavy hand everyone with an opinion. As long as you aren't blatantly flaming or obviously just trying to stir the pot your opinions can be made. There's a fine line regarding this to be sure, we do the best we can. I think the best solution is for the members to just ask themselves before they post something negative (which is fine if warranted, reasonably stated, etc) is....is it really worth it? Is my posting that of any real benefit?

I might add that, IMO, the overwhelming majority of our members here are very respectable, mature and sensible folks. Also, nothing I posted above is directed towards anyone. It's just a general statement regarding this issue overall.
