Well, it seems carmack wants to screw around with the rocket crap, so us gamers get to suffer.

Well, Tim Sweeney is now my coding idol...cya carmack.

I'm so pissed right now

I'm pissed right now that you're not living the way I want you to. Now hold still while I aim for your head. :retard:

It's not like he made Doom and the engine by himself. I am sure if Id lives so will new versatile game engines. He has also spawned more than hell with others trying to out do or match him and his team so gamers will not suffer if creativity and competition exists.

I figure Jon Carmack should care more about what he wants to do than what everyone else in the world wants him to do, you know, considering he's himself.
Carmack doesn't 'owe' you anything, stop whining.

No one makes games like Id. I like id’s games best. They are programmed in openGL and have a different look and feel than anything else. I dislike the unreal engine. It feels weird and looks like all the other D3D games out there. Plus this double tap for movement stuff is just dumb. When I was younger a lot of games worked. But now hardly anything holds my interest for very long. If it weren’t for Doom 3 I wouldn’t own a 6800 GT and would be almost done with gaming all together. So to hear John Carmak is going to call it quits soon is very sad.

From a gamer's perspective it is ofcourse unfortunate that he has developed different tastes.

Others will fill the void. He could also change his mind.

All John Carmack needs is a game that will get him into gaming again. He's never enjoyed a game since Quake III if you read some part of the article. HL2 and STALKER look like good games to get John Carmack interested in gaming.

Calm down guys ! there is still one more engine he's working on .. so lets focus on that instead of whining about his possible quit .

Hmm, so now he's making TWO engines: one for games and one for his jet :D

I thought Carmack was going to try to reach photorealism. But I was wrong...

Go Crytek and Epic!!

Armadillo, IMO hasn't done anything spectacular, and seem amaturish. Like a bunch of rich boy's with too much money and time. Wait till he crashes a few more. Then he'll probably get bored of that too. The guy probably just need's a break.

Id back then was great... but now, crytek & epic are better in making game engines...:) ...watch out for unreal engine 3.0 guys... http://pc.ign.com/articles/501/501877p1.html?fromint=1 ...hehe:)
As much as Im trying to dislike carmack...his stuff is the best. Epic and Crytek together arent as good as him in engines.

Well, maybe he'll realize he is needed, and stay, but i doubt it :( :( :( :( :( :lame:
