Nice review Clay!!
I'm wondering something about your 3dmark03 scores, however... looks to me like you had AA and AF set to Application Preference, as teh ~9k OC'ed figure looks to me to be with the Futuremark applied 4xAF...
Nice work Clay !
i liked the idea of including latest demos in the benchmarks . afterall thats what most people care about . performance in latest games .
& also including the min. framerate numbers which became important now .
what about the "PALIT Geforce 6800 128mb", i hope this card has a review also... :)
Thanks guys.
@ragejg: I'll double check that but I'm pretty sure those are accurate as I did not use the "pro" version of 3DMark2003, so just all default (no AA/AF) settings applied.
@SH64: I'm glad you think so, I know that some people don't like demos used as they aren't final code, etc. I agree with that to an extent, however, they do give you at least some idea as to what to expect and as long as you bench consistently with it everything remains relative and accurate considering.
@zeero1978: I don't think we've heard much from anyone at PALIT lately but if we do I'm sure that we'd be happy to review one of their products.
nice review... am linking it right now :D
btw... as an aside... the percentage thinger... is it easier to see as is or as (-xx%) ?
just a thought... probably am thinking of DB's review lol...
-edit- far cry too :D

Thanks! I played around with making the value negative and ()'s but it just seemed to busy it up with that font size (and I didn't want the font to be the same size as the FPS values, that looked too busy too). I think our readership is smart enough to know that a 6800 isn't going to have any performance gains over a 6800 Ultra anyway ya know? :)
I left out Far Cry on purpose due to the 1.2 patch recall. If we had a re-released 1.2 (or 1.3) patch then I'd use it but since it's no longer "official" I decided to leave it out.
/me is jellus of your inclusion of min fps in your review... :p
Next time, I'm gonna do that up...

Heh, yeah I used to think MIN values weren't all that important but I see that differently now. Thank goodness for FRAPS. :)

One of the things I apprecaite most about Clay's and other reviews here is that you let the numbers do the talking. You don't get hung up in all kinds of tech talk either about the card or the games. You lay it all out there, plain as day. Another extremely well-done review.

Wow, thanks Ed! :) I try to take the approach that most people either already know most of the mundane details commentary (or can easily find them with Google). I look at most of that stuff as filler for "w00t! our review is 24 pages long!"...even though "pages" is so relative that it's not even funny or really even measurable. :D
So, I appreciate the confirmation/feedback that informed folks like you appreciate this approach. There's a fine line between overkill/insulting people's intelligence and being too concise (we have to remember that there are always noobs coming along afterall)...we just try to find a good balance. That balance varies depending on the card too of course (how new it is, different unique features by an IHV, etc).

Or if you're like me, you don't know but you simply don't care. ;)
I don't care about how many quad vertex pixel shaders a card has. I don't care what does into a graphics pipeline, I just want to get a card, pop it in and play games. Perhaps I'm a simpleton in that regard, but hey, it works. :D

Yeah there will always be those that do care about those details but they are are a niche cadre. I care about the details to a degree but I try to not let it cause me to lose site of the bigger picture. To each his own of course.
However, if you're not careful, you can develop quite the elitist attitude (complete with myopic back-patters) and become a real turnoff to the average consumer. The average consumer is what really matters at the end of the day and they are the ones the become enthusiasts like us, or not.
Sorry for the tangent there... :D
