If you got FX card to play next gen games you have been strongly missinformed
(spit)
Why?
I too no I read an article (I think it was at hardocp) that showed
how good HL2 ran with DX8 and a 5900 . thats my story ,and I'am
sticking to it .lol
This is an old post but to tell you the truth I am pissed that I got a FX5900 that is DX9 and I cant play HL2 that way it defaults to 8.1
Now that the game is out what does every one think about this
Have you tried the "water reflection" MOD for HL2 ? It adds nice looking water using PS 1.4. Framerate drop is minimal (2-3 fps max in the "Canal" level) but the difference with the old DX 8.1 water is huge.

Yes, the DX8 Reflection patch for HL2 makes the game look virtually identical in DX8 to DX9 (the water is lovely). To see differences you have to stop and look around REALLY carefully and closely at things - and even then the differences are VERY subtle and only relate to lighting and shading - to my eye the water reflection is absolutely identical if not better.

Do no other nvidia geforce FX owners care but me that their cards wont be able to play Half Life 2 with all the DX9 effects turned on, after we spent our hard earned cash on these NEXT GEN supposedly DX 9 cards. After all we got them to play doom 3 and HL 2 on did'nt we?. Have we been ripped off?, will nvidia release drivers so we will get all the effects(at good speeds) before the game is released?,is any one else P***ed off?.
I really couldnt care less to be honest m8. Sure we was promised DX9 compatabilty when we bought our hardware, but I dont plan on loosing any sleep over it. Besides its very rare hardware lives upto the hype it gets, not to mention the difference in HL2 is so low its pathetic.
So no, I dont care really.
