Im no expert but i do know that LCD naturally produce a perfect White backround in a minimal power usage situation, so i imaging running it very dark is probably harder on it then running it super bright.

I could be totaly wrong but i think either way you probably wont keep the laptop long enough to notice long terms effects.

There's nothing wrong with it. You'll just burn up the backlight faster.

I would bet (But am not sure) that it would also lead to a greater chance of temporary LCD screen burn.

FYI the backlight is always on at the same brightness level, max. FastM is right.

I've had some laptops long enough to burn out the backlight. They're typically flourescent tubes. Some vendors will replace them and others refuse to consider them servicable parts. YMMV, but increasing brightness will decrease the operational lifetime of a LCD backlight that's flourescent.
