Well... a friend's old Gateway died, and he needs a new computer pretty fast. I was going to recommend nForce2, but that seems to be out of the picture since it's not out yet... so what do you guys recommend?

If they arent out yet, they should be very shortly and honestly I think the wait will be worth it in the long run.

for 55 dollars you can get a msi kt3 ultra2 from aberdeen

i currently use it and its probably one of the best overall mbs base off the kt333 chipset other than asus.

an nforce based board or a KT333 based board should do nicely.

I recommend any Nforce board, or SIS chipset board. SIS is extremely stable, and the boards based on their 735 chipset are extremely popular. They also have a 745 chipset that support DDR333 memory (just like VIA KT333 does)

ECS K7S5A (735 chipset) is only $54us these days ;)

Yes, that SiS board is a good deal and it should work out nicely for the rig and the wallet.

The MSI 745 Ultra is a clear winner I think. Great overclocking and I got mine for $59. With good ram, Any MSI 745 Ultra will easily go passed 166MHz FSB.

my recommandation is the Epox 8K5A series *insert flavor of choice*. EXCELLENT OC boards, the bottom of the range (8K5A2) is cheap at around 90 buck....it is identical to the other boards in the series, it just doenst have the extras (LAN, RAID etc)

It is based on the KT333 Chipset
