i just installed my geforce 4 in mandrake 9.0 (MANY thanks to the ppl on this forum, your help is greatly appreciated.) i get the white nvidia screen on startup... but things don't seem right... can't do 1024x768x24 on my desktop... only 16 bit... and ut2003 runs REALLY slow compared to when i ran it under winblows...

1.6 p4
intel 845wn mobo
512 sdram
40 gig wd @ 7200 rpm
verto gf4 ti4400

my machine is neither hard, nor core, but i thought it could handle ut2003
800x600 32 bit (with minimal effects and texturing) better than it did... at some points
i was getting 20 something fps, at best about 50. do this seem cricket?

or just look through it and see if you have "DefaultDepth 16" in there when you want 24...

Could you post your /var/log/XFree86.0.log? That should show why you can't get 1024x768, and possibly why things are slow.

hope i didn't clip anything you needed... also, i can't get ANY new settings on my desktop to work through the harddrake config tool... maybe my problem isn't my card....

change that to 24 in the XFree...that should do the desktop thing...
