View Full Version : The Sims 2: Won't play, DirectX related

When I try to play The Sims 2 I get this error message:

Failed to initialize Direct3D. Please make sure Directx 9.0c has been installed on this system. The application will now terminate.

DirectX 9.0c is already installed.
I've been trying various different graphics drivers, as old as I can find all the way to the latest release (Omega Ati Radeon equavilent of Catalyst 4.8).
I've asked around on various other forums and have gotten some answers that didn't work:
Disable/uninstall refresh force application
Set resolution to 1024x768

I've been going from forum to forum posting my problem and asking for answers in the hopes that someone, somewhere knows the answer.
Anyone here who has a solution for my problem?

We had another thread about this error message (not necessarily related to Sims 2) and a clean Windows reinstall fixed this problem. You likely have some software/driver conflict in your machine. Format, then install SP2, video drivers, then other drivers. You should be fine.
