I was reading a post that was from Nov. 2000. I know it's a long time ago but I'm having the same problem discussed in the news post. It had to deal with people getting rolling/wavy lines on their output with GeForce 2 Ultra video cards. I currently have an ATI AIW 8500DV video card and I'm expierencing the same problem. I've tried two different Sony 21 inch monitors get the same problem. The only time I don't get the rolling lines is when I run my refresh rate at 60HZ. I currently run it at 1280X1024 @ 100HZ. I've contacted ATI and they don't seem to understand the problem. Nothing specifically is done to trigger the issue. It happens at random times. I was thinking maybe the power supply wasn't enough but I've asked other ppl and they said it should be sufficient. I have 3 HD's, 2 CDROMS, 1 Live drive, 2 case fans, a P4 1.8 oc'd to a 2160, and the ATI AIW 8500DV. I am running a 400W power supply. I would really like to keep the video card because the only one to replace it would be the AIW 9700 b/c I would like a good gaming card combined with the multimedia options provided by the AIW. I've posted on Rage3d.com forums and no one seemed to know of any solutions. Could it be my mobo? I have an Asus P4B266.

Have you posted about this at Rage3D? There aren't a lot of ATI users here and even fewer AIW ones so we don't have a whole lot of knowledge about this type of card.

yes i've posted on Rage3d.com forums. No one there knew any fixes. One person posted a search link on google but I had no luck with that.

Alrighty then, have you tried a different video card in that motherboard or have you tried the AIW in another motherboard? That way we can isolate it to the video card or not.

I had a GeForce256 before I got the radeon 8500dv and I did not have any of these problems. I have tried my video card in my friend's PC, which was also using an AIW 8500DV. He did not get the same issue I got but he was using a 17 inch monitor and was not running the same monitor. :\ . I know this isnt very helpful. I believe it's an incompatibility between my monitor and my video card. I dont know though. I would rather get a new monitor than a new video card.

BTW, this is a off topic but what does NDA mean in your quote? lol i was jw

If it's the case where you're not getting this problem with another card, have you made sure to adjust the refresh rate of your monitor properly? Perhaps you have your refresh rate set too low/too high. Rage3D Tweak as well as Radeonator are two programs that have the capability of adjusting refresh rates for Windows 2000/XP.

NDA = Non-disclosure agreement. In my sig it relates to ATI (allegedly) leaking the Doom 3 alpha.

I adjust my refresh rate through the display properties. I've tried all refresh rates. 60, 70, 75, 85, 90, 100. The only one that doesnt cause the problem is 60HZ. But it kills the eyes ya know? So I dont know. Do you know any other options to a video card that has all the options that the AIW provides? I like the options it provides but this is unacceptable. I cant stand it anymore.

humm

got the same problem with my GF3TI500 leadteck

this issue gave me serious headache but i finished to find a solution. although the solution is not a square and totally rational one.

it seems that rolling lines comes from hf interference between GraphicCard signal and something else in your tower, some users say that it comes from the power cables and u should move them the farther as you can from the GC
me think (in my case ) that the 2 athlons with big HSF i got in my tower makes the interferences and my graphic card is not properly shielded.

Anyway, the solution i've found is to set with precision your refresh rate at all the resolutions you need with an utilities like powerstrip:

for instance for me: rolling lines appear only at 60 Hz and in some others refresh rates i can't enumerate but it's like, 71 Hz 82 Hz 100 Hz .. so i set my refresh rate with a custom resolution like 1440 X 1066 at 89,6 Hz , moving frequency by 0.1Hz step can decrease the quality or increase it ..

it's strange but u should try it

hmm. that sounds like an idea but a lot of work. i dont know if i would want to go through all that. did it solve the problem? does the refresh rate suck??

oh just try to set refresh rate 0.1 Hz by 0.1hz on standard resolutions (like 800X 600 1024/768 1280 X 1024 etc ...)

it's not difficult with powerstrip , it worth the try

thanks man. i'll give that a try. i'll let you know what happens. i might be selling this monitor so i dont know if im going to try this method yet. i might wait until i get a new monitor.

i installed power strip and i adjusted the refresh rate. the picture was stable without the rolling lines for about 1-2 hours and I thought maybe the problem was solved. Next thing I know the rolling lines are back. Ahhh. I dont know what else to try. I think I'm going to purchase a 3rd monitor and not make it a Sony. Maybe it's an incapatibility between ATI and Sony. Who knows???

humm i don't think it comes from something with monitors... except if u have a big speaker close to your monitor ( or something magnetic and not shielded)

may be try others refresh rates in differents ranges

otherwise it may be not a problem with ATI but with the manufacturer of your CG or MB

but i tell you i'm seeking in the dark for this problem and i'm just glad to have almost solved the problem with the refresh rate thing

Good luck anyway ;) (tell me if u find an other solution)

what is CG? I will let you know if I find anything out. Maybe I will try a different motherboard. Damn I would hate to have to make that kind of transplant. And then if I do that and it doesnt fix the problem I will be really upset. lol. oh well i'll try to keep you posted and you do the same if you hear anything. thanks man.

oups , i mean Graphic Card (GC :D )

i don't know think ATI build all the radeon, so maybe it's the fault of your radeon manufacturer

hmm maybe. but my card came in an ATI box. It's "built" by ATI. But ya know how that works so maybe that's what it is. I might try to send it back and get a new one cause they told they can do that for me if nothing works. But i dont want to have to be w/o a card until the new one comes in.

i've seemed to have found a somewhat stable refresh rate. the only problem is is that when i reboot my computer the refresh rate is not being used and i have to open powerstrip and set it. also if i play any games the refresh rate changes and when i come out of the game it's back to the unstable refresh rate. what can i do to make it so i dont have to manually set the RR everytime.
