Seems the PS2 will be getting a smaller design. Sold my PS2 so I will be picking this one up. IMO the bigger one looks better but I would rather the smaller one for space.

Damn, that thing IS tiny. There were reports that Sony was coming out with a new PS2 model (I guess this would be the PStwo?), but I didn't expect it to be THAT small. Wow, can't believe they fit everything in there...although I have the suspicion that the harddrive addon won't be an option anymore, sadly. And are the modem and ethernet ports on the front now?

Well I hope when they release full details they will HOPEFULLY have added the harddrive to the new model. They had that PSX thing which had many extra things built in so I would hope we could at least get the built in HDD.

Whoa, just found this too:

No more tray, which I actually kinda like. But jesus is that thing small, it's barely bigger than the disc!

Hmmmm I have my old one modded so I can play import DDR. I wonder how long it will take to mod the new ones.

Yes, Make all your DDR jokes. I have my flame suit on.

Here's what IGN had to say about that:

What's particularly interesting about the new SCPH-70000, however, is that it cannot use the Hard Drive (HDD) needed for games such as Final Fantasy XI, and well, Final Fantasy Xi's expansion packs.

Meh, IMO PS2 sucks, no matter how small you make it. I'm about to put mine up for sale, haven't touched it in years. Xbox and PC satisfies all my gaming needs now.

I'll be thinking about you when I am playing GTA:SA on the PSTwo :p

Damn I hate certain good games that come out only on the console (ie. ikaruga, halo2...)

But the new PSTwo deffinitely is hot, (wonder how hot it gets).

Where did you hear GT4 was pushed back? Links? Neither gamespot or IGN mentions it.

It seems it has been delayed. But in Japan only. According to IGN the North American version is still on track for November 2004.

Oh, and here is the LINK (http://ps2.ign.com/articles/549/549136p1.html?fromint=1) for proof (article is fairly recent - September 17, 2004).

So they made integrated lan/modem for online play but no harddrive to play FinalFantasy :rolleyes2 , small size does look very impressive they should have made it Laptop/Notebook like then you could play on the go PS 2 games :drooling:

Most of the online games don't use the HD anyways.

Most? More like all but 1, well maybe 2...did they ever actually have any extra Socom 2 content you could download onto the harddrive? Oh and Resident Evil Outbreak allowed you to cache the game on the harddrive, supposedly loading times without it are horrendous.

Yeah the HD is basically useless but I hear there is program that allows you to back-up your games on it, so that may be the only usefull use for it unless you really must play final fantasy which it comes with.

This pic really gives a view of how small it is. Thats alot of shrinkage.

You know, I never actually got into the whole GTA hype. I played a bit of GTAIII and few missions in GTA VC and while I certainly appreciate the open ended gameplay, I just can't see why every pre-teen is going bananas over GTA. GranTurismo series same thing. The game looks great, lots of cars, but IMO too much hype, it plays like crap compared to some other racing games.

Considering it doesn't really have a video processor, and that all it's major functions are centered on one set of processors, adding PS2 functionality to a PC would cost almost as much as the PS2 itself. The only thing they'd save money on is the casing, input/outputs, and DVD drive, which are probably the cheapest components in the system. Not to mention there's all the R&D that goes into making a PS2/PC hybrid machine fully compatable with both.
