Do you auto-hide?

for some reason my friends all think i am weird at lanparties etc because i auto-hide my task bar and my quick launch bar to the left. am i the only one who auto-hides? after i got used to it, i love it now. i guess it just helps the clutter or something *shrugs*. at any rate, i'd like to know if i am in the world all by myself, or if indeed other users auto-hide their taskbar.

Back when 1024x768 was more of the normal desktop res (or 15" monitors is more like it)...I used autohide then because every bit of screen real estate helped. Now, howver, with larger monitors and higher resolutions I keep it docked.

heh, just to clear things up, i've got my resolution at 1280x1024, but i still value screen space a lot. i wouldn't say that's really the reason i use auto-hide though, i guess it just makes it easier for me to figure out when something needs attention.

at any rate, i would have dual monitors if i had things my way.

My taskbar is on vertically orientated on the left side, with autohide.

At work, I have a habit of opening up alot of windows, so this way, I have longer titles on the taskbar, and fit more windows listings.

I don't auto-hide, and like some others here my screen res is 1280x1024... I don't really need the extra space, nor do I maximise any of my progs, so I can easily switch between them, etc...

Only reason I would auto-hide temporarily is if I was looking at something for which I would need the whole space. Practically never comes up...and can't remember the last time it might have. I do make my task bar slightly larger (for opening up a larger number of programs, while still being able to read what is what), and then lock it...

i suppose i would describe my using auto-hide as habit as opposed to out of necessity.

the other thing you can do is to get a new shellstyle that has a really thin taskbar... eliminating the need to hide it...

I like auto-hiding the taskbar. But then I'm a neat freak: the desktop must be as clean and clear of clutter as possible. I don't want it staring back at me when I'm not using it. :)

My taskbar stays visible, but I have two quick launch bars at work (left and top of screen) that I auto-hide for a little extra real estate.

No only do I not auto-hide, I jave the bar locked to double height to make it easy to have plenty o' winders open at once.

I manage SEVERAL spreadsheets at work. Gotta be able to have 'em up at once...

I'm a big fan of the keyboard. ALT+TAB is your friend. Also, with the tweak ui improvement you can even see thumbnails of the windows/tasks that you wish to cycle through.

I'm on 1024x768, and I don't autohide, because it just gets annoying sometimes for me. I don't really look at large images (shame on you guys! pr0n is bad! j/k :D (don't hurt me!)), so I find no reason to.

I love it. I have my taskbar twice the normal width with an IE address bar as the top part of it. I can't live without it now. My native res is 12x10 and I've got dual montiors, but i can't seem to not auto-hide, it's feels so..wrong when I don't.
