Okay, i am a long time gamer and there is something that has got to stop. i will never try to take away what quake 3 arena did for gaming.. in its intense deathmatch and team play. but game developers need to realize that things are not as they used to be. everyone saw thee success and since then, EVERYTHING has been deathmatch, or capture the flag or something. now, the real fun for me and i am sure, many others, is in cooperative play. imagine doom 3 or far cry with you and a few friends completing objectives? how fun would that be? i know there are mods for games out there, but those mods arent the original levels and its just not the same. imagine a whole thief 3 game with you with someone else? this is just me ranmting adn raving, cause now quake is coming out, which is going to be great, but comeone... i am tired of capture the flag. sorry for the ranting guys, i just run a Lan party for my air force base every 6 weeks and people alwasy ask me about coop games..
coop play = very enjoyable
there is coop play in rainbow six 3: ravenshield :)

no coop in doom 3 on the pc sucks to. why does xbox get the goods? and rainbow six does have coop, and its fun, but it just shows you how much potential ANY game with coop can have!

i will say that SS:SE is really fun with friends, but some of the more story oriented games need to be coop. imagine, if one person had to hit a switch at one time, and the other person had to run in the door that was opened by that switch and deactivate something.... how cool would that be?

Serious Sam, Rainbow Six (any), Operation Flashpoint, Warcraft 3, Generals, Red Alert 2, Battlefield 1942/Vietnam and Vietcong are all VERY cool for co-op.

but the coop should be with the objectives of the single player campaign.

I think the problem with COOP games is balance. You would almost have to make to completely different games. A game designed for single player would be to easy with COOP and vice versa.
I definitely cant see a Doom3 as a Coop. Its too cramped you'd just be getting in each others way.
Your leaving out the greatest coop game in recent history. Sven Coop! It's a coop mod for Half Life. www.svencoop.com
No, this is not an ad and yes this is :spam2:
Don't forget about System Shock 2. That's a very enjoyable game in coop, although with 3 or 4 people the scare factor is lessened dramatically. However, it's great going through the game with a friend, and definatly worth checking out. Sadly coop play does seem centered on consoles, even an old space shooter on the 32x called Shadow Squadron supported coop (granted, it was more of a "one person drives while the other shoots" type of coop, but have you EVER seen coop in a space shooter before?).
Oh, and I think Red Alert 2 had some coop missions in it, though they did seem more like regular skirmish missions except with 2 people rather than 1. But at least they were designed to be played by multiple people.

One person holds the flashlight, the other person shoots...seems to work for me :D

Well my first vote is is Serious Sam,
However Hack and Slash games are also fun Co-Op, like Dungeon Seige to name one, and Diablo of course.
And on the RPG side, Neverwinter Nights : )

I loved playing Dungeon Siege on the LAN with my girlfriend in a sorta coop mode. Changes the game/quests but you still group and fight together.
I tried Sacred doing same thing but didn't enjoy the game play.
I supposed NWN is same type deal, I need to try that game again. I initially was turned off to it and traded it back in a week after buying it.

Honestly, has no one here played sven coop? It's worth reinstalling Half Life for IMO. There are some maps that really bring coop to a whole new level. Not only is there more enemys than a single person could take out on there own but objectives that require more than one person to complete. For example there is a tram leading to the next part of the level but one person needs to stay behind to start it. Yeah I know thats a crappy example but you get the idea.
