The countdown has begun!!!!!
Link: http://www.futuremark.com/
anyone care to translate the timer into actual days remaining???
save me checking back all the time!!!
ta.
gonna make my 6800Gt cry for mercy!!!
:D :D
just did the the rough conversion and it looks to me like it was around 21000 seconds at 12:09 EST which would equate to 350 minutes or a little under 6 hours. Possibly released later on today.
Edit: The people on the futuremark forums look like they pay more attention than I did and it looks like the first character in the countdown is an O and not a 0(zero). read their speculation at http://discuss.futuremark.com/forum/postlist.pl?Cat=&Board=monext3dmark&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0

let the war begin! x800 vs 6800. this is going to determine which is better. 2.0b or 3.0
you still have faith in 3dmark after all thats happened in the last year or so?
I wanna see the crappola for the visuals... thats about it...

apparently in 3dmark05 pro theres a way to test the image against the directx 9 rasterizer (or somethin like that). you need the 9.0c sdk.
it would still be nice to see if sm3.0 is any good vs 2.0b
I cant wait!
and WTF is that O for??!! Nick please explain!!

nope - I use 3D Mark for:
1. The nice pictures!!!
2. comparing driver versions
3. GT4 Mother Nature is fab for overclocking testing.
4. Its nice to see what your card is capable of - most games just dont get close.

just nipped off to see if NVD has any new developer drivers - sadly nothing new.........
current set on NVD give me the best 3D Mark03 score ever so im hoping the next developers set will be even better.

I don't want to rain on anyone's excitement... whatever makes people happy is fine with me as long as its not bothering anyone else. But all the hype generated over at FM over the countdown seems rather silly.
I just can't get too excited over the release of a benchmark. Wake me when its out and the the servers are clear enough to download at normal speeds.
5900xt has a 256bit memory bandwith I believe. A very good card for the money when it was around $200. At that time a 9800 pro was close to $300

You know, if you don't care why did you click this thread? I'm excited because I wanna see what my card can do. I want to see how it stacks against an X800XT. I want to see the image quality. I think thats reason enough to be excited. 3DMark05 is what the next generation games will look like. 2003 was a pretty decent indicator at what games looked like, Doom3 looks plenty like the Game test 2.
Yeah... I want a new benchmark that will prolly run @ 5fps on my 6800 GT. :rolleyes2 :lame:
Their visuals never warrant the frame rates you get. Games with better visuals have better fps. They need to take a different approach than slamming you with a ton of overdraw or other "invisible" things that kill the framerates.
IMO, A brand new 3DMark should always stay above 30 FPS on a 1 year old "mainstream" card (In this case, a 9600XT or FX5700 Ultra).... then make the score go from there. Anything that dips below 30FPS would FAIL the test (No score for that portion of the test).
They need to quit using overdraw and crap to bring down the framerates and do it purely on the visuals!
Oh well... that's my 2 cents.

Does anybody know how big the download is going to be.
Whhmmm I thought it said 000000nnnn but the first letter was an O.. oooh booger. Now it's a W.
Btw the guys worrying about the driver optimizations and cheats. It's not exactly impossible to do a software render of a scene and compare it to a screenshot from the driver, even digitally/automatically. Although its always best if the user controls the "comparison" so the driver doesnt know when its being spied on.
dang I spent 2 min looking at the timer counting down to get a w....

I clicked it because I didn't know what the "countdown" was and was curious.... As for posting about it, well I tried very hard to say that I'm not criticizing anyone else for their excitement over it, I just think the whole countdown thing and the hype over at the FM forums (yes, I checked out the link) is kinda overblown. I mean, its not a game, its just a benchmark tool with some fancy graphics. Yes, I'm looking forward to checking it out, but spending hours trying to figure out the secret of the countdown clock is a bit much for me.
But hey, This wasn't a personal attack on anyone. If thats what you are looking forward to, then I'm excited for ya...
so when's this supposed to be out? Or has the countdown ended and still nothing? (typical)
I myself dont use this to base a purchase ...when sites use this as a benchmark for new cards-I skip through it....I simply use it as a means of testing new drivers and ocing. Well...the visuals help too....but imo 3dmark2k3's visuals sucked ass.

I agree. Mother Nature didnt look as good as the original nature IMO... the air battle was weak, the girl with the sword was just dumb (though its funny when the trolls hurt themselves) and the battle of proxycon looked cool but was cheesey... none of the action seemed to fit together (shooting 50 rounds at a guy from 10 feet away then suddenly he flies through the air as if hit by a cannon ball).
I thought the game tests in 2001 were a lot better. Texture resolution and effects arent as impressive as 2003, but overall the scenes are more interesting and realistic looking (detail and effects does NOT mean realism).
I feel ya man. 2K1 was def. better! 2K5 seems to be on the right track....now where the heck is it.....heh
