So I've got my Dual G5 with 2 GBs of memory and I'm waiting for the 6800 Ultra DDL and Doom 3. Question is, when the hell will we see it? I know Doom 3 is coming for OSX and i think i'm ready for it with the memory and cpu part, but my videocard is crap, at the moment anyways. Word on the street is nvidia can't make enough of them to start selling them yet and apple is waiting for them to release the 30'' screen. Hurry up nvidia...i want my 6800 Ultra and i'm sure you want my 600 bucks.

it seems they are procrastinating on the porting to linux/mac, they promised a linux binary like days after it was released and still haven't provided one. porting it to mac will take even longer probably :(. they probably are just high off of the success of the game, i hope they can return to earth and start fixing it now, lol.

A month or so ago on Neowin.net on the frontpage, I read that Apple is waiting for nvidia to produce the cards.

Well dude, under further examination of their webpage store your correct, its tagged as "Expected delivery date Late October"

However id give the apple store a call tomorow and see if you can get more information out of them. However you'll notice that their 30" LCD screen is also tagged as late october, so i have a feeling that both will not be avalibe till then.

Not much more i can say though sorry!

well the apple store told me they don't know when its coming out or if they'll be selling them there. It seems my best bet is to buy it online.

anyone know if I'd be able to get Doom 3 PC version to run? I got my old Quake 2 to work using an OSX emulator and just copied the base folder off of the CD and made a Quake 2 folder and put in the plugin. I'm guessing its not that hard to get it to run.

Id is going to release Mac binarys for doom3 hopefully, however if you want to play it now, no clue.

Those 30" Mac screens are friggin gorgeous. I've heard the same thing about nVidia not being able to produce in volume their DDL cards. I always wondered what the difference was between the DDL and 6800U. It looks longer (I think?) and seems to have a lot more capacitators.

If id would release a mac demo, i could probably easily get my PC copy to work, by replacing the base files. Back to the topic though, its already October and as of yet, there's still no mention of the 6800 Ultra DDL on Nvidia's site.

Well so much for getting that. Back to the PC baby. I use the MAC for video editing now. Looking to sell it soon so I can beef up this system some more.

what does the DDL stand for?

I finally found out what the DDL versions are for. The Mac 30" has such a huge screen size that a digital video cable can't support the bandwidth needed to support the massive number of pixels on-screen. It actually needs _two_ digital inputs to display an image. So the extra capacitors must be needed for running two digital outs at once - For the same monitor.

what does the DDL stand for?

I believe it stands for Dual Display Link.
