View Full Version : How powerful is XP system restore?
Lets say I've installed graphics card drivers version ABC and I set a checkpoint there, then I uninstall them and install version BAC, but I'm not happy with them, when I do a system restore, will BAC automatically be uninstalled and ABC reinstalled? Same scenario for removing programs with Add/Remove Programs,
what about in reverse? if I have new drivers on one checkpoint and then delete them a few days later and revert to that checkpoint, will the drivers be restored
its pretty decent and can restore some buggered up installs that you want to get rid of...
you'll get different mileage for each situation...

The key is successfully booting into safe mode to run system restore. Depends on how much the OS you've crapped up, heh.
Also if I am correct, you will lose any programs installed between your restore point, and the point that you want to restore from. So if for example, 2 days after you restore point, you roll back, and you have installed some games etc, they will longer be installed when you roll back.

Yeah Roll Back is like going back in time , i did it once and lost all my data downloaded / installed / moved , so its kinda lame if you ask me :retard:

I usually just nuke Windows rather than messing with system restore, that way I'm ensured whatever I messed up will go away. This, of course, also requires regular backups.

Ghost is your friend for backups. That and an external portable hard disc. :)

LOL What???
With Norton Ghost you still need to back all your stuff up to CD/DVD don't you?

Yes, at least to a different partition or some other form of media. If you don't like doing that, get v2i protector deskop edition. It backs everything up as you use it to a different partition or hard drive. Unfortunately, it also slows down your pc quite a bit.
